Alex and Emily first met in October 2015 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. In a city full of things to do, they found that all they needed on their first date was to sit in a park for hours, just talking and watching the sun set. He knew almost immediately she could be the one, but she - as always - was more cautious yet hopeful.

Emily and Alex continued to date over the next few years, spending as much time together as they could. They met each other's friends and families, spent holidays together, went on vacations together, and became more connected as a couple. The more they learned about each other, the more they fell in love. Though their relationship was not without its hardships, the time, differences, and distance ultimately brought them closer together.

On April 8, 2021, Alex proposed. Under the guise of preparing a surprise for Emily’s 25th birthday, Alex planned a scavenger hunt to lead Emily to the spot where he would ultimately pop the question. The clues detailed the path they had walked together and why he’d always known they were destined to be. Ultimately the clues led her to the park in Arkansas where he first asked her to take a leap of faith and of love and move a thousand miles to be together. That day he would ask her for another such leap. When Emily got to the park, she found Alex waiting for her, down on one knee, ring in hand, and that most important question on his lips.
