Emily and Troy's love story began in the professional realm, where they crossed paths at their first jobs post-college. The spark ignited when Troy, feeling bold during a client call in a conference room, playfully messaged Emily with the cryptic words "Green Icing." Initially puzzled, Emily soon decoded the message, realizing it referred to the lingering green birthday cake icing on the room's speaker from a prior celebration.

In true Emily fashion, she didn't read too much into the encounter, and gave a minimal response- maintaining a friendly distance from Troy for the next 8 months, despite harboring feelings for him. Within that 8 months, their mutual friend Blair (who also worked with them) continued to encourage a reluctant Emily to date Troy. Blair knew early on they were a perfect match. Then, on November 18th, 2017, during a trip to Dogfish Head Brewery in Delaware, Troy turned to Emily and asked, "You're my girlfriend, right?" to which Emily responded with a charming, "I guess."

Over the years Emily and Troy continued to tackle a multitude of adventures throughout the country together, and every year following November 2017, on their anniversary, the couple revisited Dogfish Head Brewery. It was on November 18th, 2023, at the very spot where their story began, that Troy asked Emily to marry him; and she said, "Oh my god, where did you hide the ring? Look how big the box is."
