Emily's Perspective

Picture of Emily's Perspective

When I met Angel in junior high, I could tell there was something different about him, but we never really spoke. The next year I went off to high school and that was that. But the year after that, he joined me, as we had both transferred to Pitman for band. We were in jazz band together, so we became friends. Formal was coming up, which is girls ask guys, and I decided to ask him. I put together a paper bag with some Uncrustables sandwiches and a note that read, “You’re the peanut butter to my jelly. Will you go to formal with me?” I left it on his desk in Spanish class for him to find. After that, we texted non-stop and a few weeks later, on December 21, 2012 at a friend’s apocalypse party, we decided to make it official. Even though the world, of course, did not end that day, my life as I knew it did. Over the next few years we dealt with a lot of heartbreak, from losing loved ones, to facing judgement from certain individuals regarding our relationship. Everything that was done to try to split us up only made us grow closer together; we were inseparable. We have both been there for each other through all the hard times, and all the good, even if we weren’t able to physically be together. We grew up together. I couldn’t imagine my life without him and I’m so excited for this next chapter together. From high school, to college, to grad school, I am so grateful to have had my best friend by my side the entire way and to have been there to see all of his accomplishments. Marrying him is something I have been looking forward to for so long, that it’s kind of hard to believe it’s actually happening. I can’t wait to see where this next stage of our relationship takes us and for all of our new adventures in Davis. Angel's Perspective

Having met in the junior high band as a couple of saxophonists, Emily and I did not have a memorable first encounter. However, this initial lack of the extraordinary did not foreshadow the relationship we would later develop. We reunited in high school, starting out as friends, but inevitably becoming something more. Emily and I quickly fell in love and learned that we were meant to be together. Despite being labelled as nothing more than “young love,” our relationship was more substantial than that. We had to overcome various obstacles in our relationship, and, because of this, we have come to truly understand each other. After over seven years together, we are practically the same person (just a look, and we know what the other is thinking). I love Emily, and I can’t imagine spending any of the rest of my days without her. I’m looking forward to spending the rest of our lives together.
