Michael and I first met a month after swiping right on Hinge in April 2023. We chatted it up over our favorite lines from “The Office” and karaoke songs. Meanwhile, I did my own research on Michael courtesy of my Matron of Honor Johanna (Jo) who knew him through City on a Hill (The Catholic young adult community in Kansas City). Jo recognized Cody Hummer (groomsman) in one of Michael’s pictures and gave me the green light.
Michael reached out and actually called me to set up the first date at Brewery Imperial in the Crossroads. We ordered some French fries and beers and talked until the sun went down. At the end of the date, I felt so much peace and knew things were going to be different with this guy.
Our second date was a walk and picnic at Shawnee Mission Park Lake. We opened up to each other while nibbling on some adult Lunchables. Michael left for Florida on his annual guys trip but could not keep this Kansas girl out of his mind. We met for dinner when he came back and asked me to be his girlfriend.
Michael and I bonded on our love for the Kansas Jayhawks. One of my favorite memories with Michael is going to my first KU football game. The memory still “stings” a bit as we got attacked by bees on our walk to the stadium! We had no better luck attending our second football game at the Chiefs Wild Card game vs. Miami in January. Would you rather a bee sting or minor frost bite? The Jayhawks and Chiefs won those games, so I’d say we brought some good luck.
The proposal happened February 22nd at Shawnee Mission Park, at the same spot we had our second date. When Michael proposed to me I was flooded with joy. As much as Michael had planned to make it a surprise, I knew the whole time. Regardless of the planning fails, I am so excited to have Michael by my side on my journey to Heaven.
We are so thankful for you! We are appreciative of the unique way you have touched our lives. We cant wait to celebrate our wedding with you soon! We are doing the thing!
