Our Story

Picture of Our Story

Emily and Eric met in the most romantic way possible: they were both studying abroad in Paris and proclaimed their love for each other at the top of the Eiffel Tower.

Just kidding! They met in the second most romantic way possible, which is through Tinder.

When they swiped right on each other, they were both doing something they were passionate about: Emily was at Chipotle eating a burrito bowl and Eric was lying in bed.

After a week or so of texting, Eric asked Emily out on a date with him on May 13th and she said no, because it was her birthday and she already had plans that weekend. So, their first official date was on May 20th, 2018.

For their first date, Eric and Emily went to Museum London. While Eric has always been great at choosing date locations, he's not always great at actually getting to those locations.

You see, when Eric was driving from Bayfield to London for their first date, he assumed that "London Road" would lead to London (spoiler: it didn't!). After that slight (one hour long) delay, he eventually made it to the museum and had what became the first of five years worth of dates with Emily.

After taking road trips together to places like Ottawa and Montreal, Eric and Emily decided to fly to Newfoundland in 2022. After a 5 hour delay (and a generous amount of complimentary Tim Horton's donuts), they finally made it! Their trip was eventful, as they went whale watching, got screeched in, heard some unique pub songs about old ladies getting stuck in a lavatory, and they also ran into the Premier of Newfoundland within the first couple of days. They also got to see a lot of puffins, with one local referring to them as "potatoes with wings".

However, the most eventful part of the trip happened on July 6th, 2022 at the Memorial University Botanical Gardens. Eric's proposal was well thought-out, as he knew that Emily was going to want to take aesthetic, Instagram worthy photos that day. Emily (unknowingly) became the director and cinematographer of her own engagement, as she made sure that the tripod was centred and angled properly. Eric suggested making a video and taking screenshots instead of using the self-timer to take pictures. A couple of staged poses and one spin later, Eric got down on one knee and asked Emily to marry him (spoiler #2: she said yes!).

So, after six years together, one dog, one degree, one house, and many adventures later, Emily and Eric are taking the next step in their journey and are tying the knot!

They're so excited to celebrate with all of their closest family and friends, but they're still waiting to be featured in a Tinder success story commercial.
