Our Wedding

Our story dates back to about 8 years ago when Emily was in a lifegroup through Saddleback Church. Rebecca MacLean (Austin's mom) was Emily's lifegroup leader from Sophomore -- Senior year. During Emily's time in high school, she formed a close relationship with Rebecca and came to know her family. Throughout college, Emily would come home and continually meet with Rebecca to walk, talk and catch up. In August 2020, Austin's friends mentioned Emily was recently single and suggested that he reach out to Emily and take her on a date. Austin asked his mom what he thought of this idea and she said, "Well, you know I love Emily and she's the best," yet was still slightly taken aback. She never thought her son would date one of the girls in her lifegroup. Emily loves to post on instagram and had posted about a book she was reading 'The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry' by John Mark Comer. Loving that book too, and having followed Emily for years on instagram, Austin responded something along the lines of "great book!" and Emily proceeded to respond with multiple paragraphs about what she liked from the book. From there, Austin encouraged Emily to read a different book by another Pastor/Author, Jon Tyson. This book 'The Burden is Light' would become the book that sparked the first coffee date and their relationship. They went on their first date in September and continued to spend time together for the next month. Austin and Emily started their dating relationship in October. Some highlights from their first couple months of dating include setting up Emily's first classroom, dressing up together for Halloween as "Smartie Pants and Eye Candy", spending many days at the beach and going on hikes. They did start dating amidst COVID, which caused them to be creative with date nights. Lucky for Austin and Emily, they live in a beautiful place with beaches, parks, and other outdoor activities. It was pretty crazy to finally be able to eat in a restaurant together in February 2021 for Valentine's Day! During the early months of dating, they kept their social circles relatively small due to COVID, which allowed for their family and close friends to speak into the relationship. In the spring of 2021, some highlights included going to San Luis Obispo to celebrate Cade (Austin's brother) graduate from college, visiting Brian Head, UT at the family cabin and snowboarding (first time for Em), and watching many sunsets at the beach near Austin's apartment! They wanted to add a little something sharing what they've both enjoyed about dating so far and key moments where they knew they wanted to marry one another: From Austin--The entire process of asking Emily on a date and continuing to go on dates was so refreshing. Early on, I could tell Emily was different in the way that she carried herself, pursued the Lord and knew what she wanted. The peace from the Lord that I felt very early on was a clear sign of clarity that Emily was the one I wanted to spend the rest of my life with. From Emily--From our first date, I could tell that Austin pursued the Lord with intention and desired to share his faith with others. It was clear that Austin was wise and kind, as he was so intentional and thoughtful in the process of getting to know me. When sharing my own story and hardships with him early on, it was clear that God's hand was over our relationship through Austin's responses. I felt the Lord's peace so clearly and it was evident that Austin was going to be my husband and the one I wanted to spend my life with. Emily and Austin got engaged on July 30, 2021 at Badlands Park in Laguna Niguel. It was incredible to cherish this moment together alongside a couple of friends, beautiful scenery and a wonderful sunset. Austin planned the whole evening, which included a surprise engagement and engagement party after with our families and close friends at the MacLean house.

Austin really enjoys April 15th, since that is the tax deadline. During his free time, he does Emily's taxes for fun and color codes Excel files. That's if he's not complaining about his rashes or stomach hurting.

Michelle cannot go without a Starbuck's drink once a week. She loves to watch the Harry Potter movies at any hour of the day. Michelle falls constantly, so look for the girl tripping down the aisle.

At work, he enjoys playing with numbers in Excel. When not working, he is most likely studying for his next CPA test. When he's not doing either of those,  he enjoys surfing circles around Austin or getting lost in a foreign country!


Cade MacLean

Julia is the princess of the MacLean family. She spends more time in the air than she does on the ground. Julia takes delight in teaching all of her brothers about the facts of life from a girls' perspective.

Tanner enjoys playing golf. His favorite thing might be watching sports. He is looking for/ in need of an absolute baddie! Tanner believes he is the best looking Maclean brother.

Rachel is the kind of person who takes photos of her food before she eats it. She will also probably talk to you about GCU, Star Wars, the fine lads in Outer Banks or the latest styles at Anthropologie.

Richard is stoked to meet everybody. Here are a few things about him: He loves trying new foods, exploring new places and pushing Austin’s buttons. He is pretty good at this last one after sharing a room with Austin for 4 years at college!

Julia constantly lives her interior design life (aka shopping with other people's money). When she's not doing this, you will find her absolutely crushing Sawyer in a game of cards, surfing circles around any Genoway or MacLean or watching Bachelor in Paradise.

Sawyer aka "Noosh" is basically the fourth brother in the MacLean family. While at work, he throws ladders and saves lives. In his spare time, he finds himself on anyone else's family vacations.

Jenna is a barista/actor (or "baristactor" if you will). When she is not shaking drinks or taping auditions, you will find Jenna meticulously practicing BTS dances in her living room or deep in the marvel cinematic universe subreddit.

At work, he enjoys arresting bad guys. When not working, he enjoys beating Tanner on the golf course. If he's not doing either of those two things, there’s a good chance he's helping Austin put medical cream on those hard-to-reach places…!

When Lauren is not throwing up gang signs, she spends her time learning tik tok dances. (She thinks she looks cooler than she actually is). A special talent of hers includes shoving her fist in her mouth. One time, she accidentally shaved her eyebrow off!

Carl is a retired family room DJ. Routinely, his wife points out the food stuck in his teeth (occasionally squirrel). Sometimes his shoulder hurts because he surfs too much -- athletically he is in decline. Carl is very happy to be here!

Mattie is a retired college athlete, and still spends all her days pretending she's still a college athlete. They say, "those who can't do, coach." On the weekends, you can find her poolside with her dog, Ryder. This relationship is the longest "dating" relationship for Mattie.

Chris and Austin met at Baylor where they instantly bonded over their mutual distaste for southern fashion. Chris spends his work days aligning shapes in PowerPoint. Outside of work, he usually listens to music while daydreaming about snowboarding from his bedroom in Texas.

First, if you are traveling from outside of California, two great airports to fly into would be LAX or San Jose. From there, you will need to rent a car to get to Paso Robles.
