While we aren't having a traditional wedding party, there are some pretty special people we'd like to highlight.

Better than any other kind of bridesmaid, it is very important to us to have the girls stand with for us on our big day. We can't imagine it any other way.

Emily fell in love with the country, but even more so with the laid back culture in Crete. The food, the wine, and the sea are all sure to win you over too. We will have a page with notes about Emily's favorite sites in Greece if you plan to travel around more before or after the wedding. Our wedding will be near a small town in Crete called Rethymno. Rethymno is an old fortified town on the Northern coast of Crete. It boasts both beaches and cultural sites and is near to our wedding venue, Agreco Farms, which is situated further inland. If you are able, we suggest you arrive to Crete a few days early, hence the suggested July 9-12. This will help you overcome jet leg before the big day AND allow us all to enjoy the island together. The afternoon of July 9th, we are looking at a hosted boat tour and July 10th we are looking at a walking food and wine tour in lieu of a grooms dinner. More details to come on both. Getting to Rethymno you have two main airport choices, Heraklion or Chania, which are about equidistance from Rethymno. One suggestion would be to start your journey to Athens and transfer via one of Europe's many budget airlines (cough, cough Ryanair) or by Ferry. These both can be booked ahead of time and each has their pros and cons. Know that the ferries are NOTORIOUS for running behind schedule. And with budget airlines, be sure to read ahead about any hidden fees (Ryanair works best if you download their app and ensure you pay for any baggage in advance... speaking from personal experience). Regardless of your route, you could choose to rent a car, but driving in Greece can be... stressful shall we say? It would be better to hire a taxi or Emily had great luck going on the travel app Viator and searching for "Airport Transfers", which is where a dude holds a sign waiting for you at the exit and drives you to your location. This can be around $100-$150 BUT if you time it right with other travelers (Emily and Drew are happy to help facilitate) you can reserve a van for about the same price and split the fare. They do not do traditional room blocks with a discount that you may be used to for weddings. We tried going the travel agent route and they threw up their hands. But never fear, I have done the research and found a few options. We will be staying at the Grecotel Plaza Beach House which has small studios up to 2 bed, 2 bath apartments which could be more affordable if you are willing to bunk up :) Its right on the water, has a pool, and comes with breakfast. This will be the pick-up and drop-off location for the wedding. The other 2 hotels I have suggested have good ratings and reviews on several sites. If you are interested in staying at a Grecotel property, they do offer a 15% discount for rooms on their website if you sign up for their loyalty program. That said, there are some good deals out there on different travel sites too.

We will arrive in Crete July 8th. OMG where's your honeymoon?!?! Florence, Italy Where are you guys staying? We are staying at the Grecotel Plaza Beach House. It will be fun if a group is staying there too, but listen, everyone has different budgets, needs, and travel expectations. You do you :) What are these mystery activities you have mentioned? We are so glad you asked and there are questions in the survey about them. There are 2 we are looking at coordinating: 1. Boat Cruise (hopefully of the pirate ship variety): We are excited to be able to cover the expense of this for anyone who wishes to join, that said, totally optional. This would include a tour out of the Port of Rethymno 2. Traditional Village Dinner: There is a dinner and live music experience that would include a full traditional meal, wine, a folk music/dance show and transportation. If interested, we will share a link to book on your own (I believe the cost is $70/person, more details to come). While we are not covering this activity, we did want to help coordinate another chance to hang out together, especially if you are coming in prior to the wedding and fending off jet lag. Do you have any other hot travel tips? If you don't already have it, I highly recommend the Viator App. This app makes it easy to book transportation, tours and experiences. Emily has used this for travel for years and has always had great experiences with it.
