One dark February evening in 2016, Ivan Decker, national treasure, was performing comedy for an event called Laughs to End MS in support of the MS Society of Canada. It was on this night that Emily Duholke, accompanied by many A&W colleagues and her sweet sister, Hilary, made the fateful decision to contact Ivan and change the course of their lives forever. Emily had seen Ivan perform around town before, but never before had he been quite so funny and quite so handsome, and perhaps never before had she been quite so drunk. Upon returning home, Emily sent a Facebook message to Ivan congratulating him for a great show and asking if he would be interested in going out some time. It may not have come off quite so coherently. The next day at the office, Emily admitted to her dear friend (and boss at the time), Mika, that she had contacted "the comedian" and asked him out. Mika was horrified, but mostly because Emily's current Facebook profile picture included two llamas, a bucket hat, and very sensible traveling pants. Despite this tragic photo, Ivan surprised everyone by replying that he would be interested in meeting for drinks and a date was set!

Their first date took place at the Diamond in Gastown on February 10th, 2016. The date was the best first date in the history of first dates. A second date was set before the first had ended. From that point on, it was always going to be Ivan & Emily, Emily & Ivan. They refuse to be slowed down by completely conflicting work schedules, frequent business travel, or even different area codes. This is the real deal, folks. This is LOVE.

In addition to loving each other, Ivan and Emily love baseball, food, their friends and family (very sorry that you had to come after baseball and food), great wine, okay wine, board games, and comedy (of course). They have traveled together to many parts of Canada and the US, Jamaica, the Bahamas, and Ireland, and look forward to more destinations in the future! Emily makes the plans, and Ivan brings the adventure, and it all just works.
