Emily and Gage first met when they started their first year at SC Governor’s School for the Arts and Humanities (SCGSAH) in 2016. Though they were not close friends, Emily remembers thinking Gage was funny when he wore his inflatable Baymax costume to the Halloween dance and Gage remembers her coming to breakfast grumpy…every morning.&nbsp; Their friendship truly blossomed in the 2018-2019 school year when Gage was in his senior year at SCGSAH and Emily was a freshman at Furman. Since Gage was considering Furman for his undergraduate program, he reached out to Emily to attend Music Department events together and they started to hang out more often, frequently catching up over coffee at Due South and eating tacos at White Duck.&nbsp; After Gage chose Furman, he and Emily became even closer. Late night trips to Cookout became frequent and they always had a buddy when they needed to go to the store or run errands.&nbsp; When COVID hit, Emily and Gage both struggled. Emily asked Gage to help her move out of her dorm room because he was the only person she could think of who she wouldn’t have to hide her true emotions from. When he showed up that day (despite having car problems and getting stranded in Mauldin, she later found out) and helped her pack, she knew for certain that Gage was someone special, even though they were only friends at the time.&nbsp; Their friendship took a bit of a hiatus over COVID and through the additional semester that Emily stayed at home. They both poured into their school work, jobs, and other relationships and only talked occasionally. However, once Emily returned to campus in the spring of her junior year, their friendship picked right back up where it had left off.&nbsp; During the summer of 2021, Emily stayed on Furman’s campus to work an internship and Gage moved to Charlotte to work. They spoke frequently over text and on the phone, leaning on each other to navigate the big life changes they were facing. In mid-July of that summer, Gage came to Furman for a visit. When he came over to Emily’s apartment, she realized just how much she had missed seeing Gage in person over the past few months and he ditched the party to stay and spend time with her. After many hours (and Gage abandoning his ride home), Emily drove Gage back to his house and they sat in the driveway listening to music and reflecting on how far they’d come in their years at Furman. That night, they had their first kiss. The next day, Gage took Emily out on their first date to White Duck Taco and, after a few weeks of Emily panicking about the fact that she had kissed her best friend, Gage asked Emily to be his girlfriend on August 2, 2021.&nbsp; Ever since then, Gage and Emily have been inseparable. They have shared many milestones in their time together such as their graduations from Furman, Gage’s acceptance to graduate school, Emily completing her first year as a high school teacher, moving into their first shared apartment, and adopting their puppy Pepper. They celebrated their two-year anniversary in August of 2023 and in September, Gage asked Emily to marry him in the Furman Rose Garden, one of their favorite places to spend time together back when they started dating in 2021.&nbsp;

Sully's Steamers is a bagel sandwich shop that is one of Gage and Emily's favorite spots to grab a quick bite to eat. Emily's go-to is the Swamp Rabbit BBQ and Gage's is the Free Bird.

Falls Park is a Greenville must-do. From there, you can see the SC Governor's School where Gage and Emily first met, walk across Liberty Bridge, and have quick access to the rest of Downtown Greenville.

If you're in the mood to take a stroll, the Furman Lake is a great place to go! You'll see the Rose Garden where Gage proposed and the Bell Tower where you can find Emily's alumna brick.
