It was Texas District church camp 2015. Jeremiah and Emily (14 and 15 at the time) met for the first time. By the end of the week, Jeremiah had asked Emily on her first date to the end of camp banquet! They began to text and talk on the phone every day after camp ended… at the next church camp they attended, Jeremiah made things official by making Emily his girlfriend! With Jeremiah living in Dallas and Emily in Austin, they only saw each other at church events, school dances, and the occasional visit. The couple broke up (for no bad reason) right before both of them finished high school and left for college.
They both moved out of state, Jeremiah to Oklahoma and Emily to Missouri. They both graduated, worked hard, and lived on their own. Eventually, they both moved back to Texas (Texans always come back). Seven years had passed since their high school romance… and Jeremiah had to see Emily again.
Jeremiah texted Emily that he would be in town and would love to get coffee. Emily said yes! One 8 hour phone call later, and they both couldn’t wait to see each other again. When they sat down for coffee, Jeremiah told Emily that he knew he wanted to be with her again… and Emily was very happy to tell him that she wanted that too.
Both Jeremiah and Emily felt deeply that they were meant to be together. To be together again after years of growing up and learning about life separately felt so right. After a short, exciting time, the couple got engaged right before Thanksgiving!
This season of being engaged has been such a blessing for the couple. The love and care that has been showered on them is truly inspiring and they are more than thankful for everyone who has shared their joy during this time. They cannot wait to be married and begin the next chapter of their love story!
