Kyle and I have gone to school together since Elementary. I am a year older so we never had any classes together until High School when we were in the same English class. We had a few mutual friends and Kyle happened to tell one of them that he thought I was cute. This got back to me so that day in class, I went and sat behind Kyle to talk to him. He was pretty shy so I ended up mostly talking to his friend. Over the next few weeks, we talked more and more and eventually Kyle asked me to be his girlfriend. The rest as they say, is history.
The next 12 years went by so fast. Kyle and I moved to St. Clair Shores while we each finished college and began working. We got our first dog, Molly, a cocker spaniel, who is our little bear. We have been on many trips including camping and exploring the Upper Peninsula, Panama City Beach Florida, Cleveland and Louisville. Kyle and I enjoy spending our summers kayaking, camping in Lupton and going on our annual Cedar Point trips. In 2014, Kyle and I bought our first house in St. Clair Shores. We love spending time with our family and friends and enjoying our time together. It was a great 12 years together!
Kyle's birthday is March 20th and mine is March 24th. It is always fun when we can say we are the same age for a few days, before I turn older again. On March 22, 2014, Kyle was taking me on a surprise trip for my birthday. As we were driving, we were in Port Huron near the Fort Gratiot Lighthouse. I asked if we had time to go there and he said yes. When we parked the car Kyle said he had to get something out of his bag while I got my camera and zipped up my coat. We walked to the beach and there were a few other people walking but it was pretty cold. We walked along the beach and over to the lighthouse. Kyle was talking about the time we have spent together and he grabbed my hands and turned to face me. I was looking around at the water and at an older couple on the beach just thinking nothing of the situation. Then he got down on one knee and said Emily, will you marry me? I think my jaw hit the sand! I could not believe it. I said yes repeatedly and then asked if I said yes because if not my answer was yes. We took lots of pictures by the lighthouse and the water and continued our walk on the beach. Kyle had booked a room a the Thomas Edison Inn with a view of the water and the freighters that went by. It was the perfect day! The next day was our family birthday party and both of our family's were going to be together. Even though it was hard, we waited to tell them when we were all together.
