It was a warm, sunny spring day in the year of our Lord 2020. Nick was sitting nervously in his 540 sq ft yellow tiny house in South Fayetteville, suspense building as each moment passed by. He had all of his windows open to enjoy the never-ending playlist of bird songs carried into his humble abode from the world outside. The trees were turning green again after a long, dreary winter and his blossoming flowerbed served as beautiful foreshadowing for a love that would soon emerge.

Less than one month before, a worldwide phenomenon forced everyone home from work and isolated in their homes. Nick, at the encouragement of his dearest friends, had begun to grow out a healthy mustache and publicly advertise his upcoming bout with 5,260 calories of McDonald's on a livestream for the world to enjoy. He had stocked up on liquor at Sam's Club and was partaking in virtual evening happy hours with friends around the country each night. Emily, in a house full of roommates, escalated her passion for arts and crafts by utilizing Facebook marketplace and neighborhood trash routes to flip other people's discarded belongings into newfound treasures, providing a steady cashflow for her and the girls to buy route 44 diet cokes and chicken tendies from Slim's. They were each living in their own, strange little worlds until they both made a decision which would lead those separate worlds to collide into one: downloading the Hinge app.

Nick and Emily "matched" initially due to their uncanny good looks and seemingly joyful outward portrayals. It was once their wit, humor, and sarcasm jousted in conversation that they knew they had to take this to the next level and exchange phone numbers. Emily was elated. Nick was ecstatic, albeit conscious of the strategies he had learned on the chess team in middle school to not let his opponent know his next move - so he waited several days to call. Over the course of those days, Emily was sad, but had the comfort of her roommates and cheap wine to help quell the wonder of whether this mystery man would ever contact her. After a few days had passed, Nick pulled the trigger and called. More conversation quickly followed and they agreed to "go on a date" (mind you, no restaurants or movie theatres or any public spaces were open at this time). That initial date would occur on the warm, sunny spring day where this story began just 3 paragraphs ago.

The pleasant bird song and sound of trees rustling in the breeze was interrupted by a small SUV pulling in front of Nick's house, music blasting. The driver of the SUV exited, talking loudly on speakerphone with what sounded to be her mother. They were gossiping about something, seemingly not concerned about the initial meeting that would soon take place. Nick opened his door, looked at Emily and said, "hello". She came inside for a few minutes before Nick whisked her away to get Wright's BBQ takeout in his truck. The entire drive was full of conversation and laughter, which quickly turned to salivating hunger once the smell of elite bbq joined the fun (we highly recommend you go eat Wright's BBQ while in town for the wedding!). They returned to Nick's house and sat down for a marathon of Tiger King episodes. Nick, wanting to make a good first impression, refrained from putting unwanted pressure on Emily by sitting too close, but gradually moved his body closer to hers as the evening of tiger sanctuary drama went on. Unbeknownst to Nick, Emily's roommates were parked outside and peering into the windows to ensure Nick was as normal and non-dangerous as he appeared.

From that day forward, they spent time each week together, their relationship blossoming like a well-nourished flower. Dates turned into group activities, then trips out of town, then trips out of state and eventually trips to countries around the world together over the next 3 years.
