Our Proposal Story
It was the end of spring break for me, and I was going to New York City to visit Aaron. He was working in a town nearby, so we thought it would be fun to spend a weekend in the Big Apple since I had never been. He made dinner plans for one night, so Aaron asked me to bring my pretty green dress. I was walking with my mom every day leading up to that weekend, and I casually asked her what her plans were for the weekend since I was going to New York. She mentioned that she was going with my dad to one of his trials, so we couldn't walk on the Thursday before I left. I didn't think anything of it since my mom had talked about traveling with my dad more. The morning of my flight, I did my makeup and dressed as if it was normal for me to go to New York. I text Aaron my travel plans, and as I am talking to him, my seat got bumped from Main cabin to Comfort Plus. Awesome! I was able to talk to a lady next to me about different sights to see while I was in New York since she was from Brooklyn. Aaron kept saying that I didn't need to make any plans, but I was getting notes from a local. I finally get to New York and update Aaron the whole way since he seemed worried. I wasn’t sure of his stress, but I tried to reassure him. We had dinner reservations at 7:30, but that was 3 hours away. When I get there, Aaron hurries me upstairs to our room at the hotel. He seemed very anxious. I told him that everything is fine because I was finally there. We get to the room, and I suggested we go see Times Square. Aaron agrees, and we head out. We take a few pictures and head back to the room to get ready for dinner. We still had 2 hours, so Aaron suggested that I take a shower and take my time to get ready. I was definitely okay with taking my time and enjoying the nice bathroom. Aaron was able to grab some complimentary wine for me from the front desk. It was the epitome of relaxation. I felt bad when Aaron asked for some Advil. He was starting to not feel well. He even laid down to nurse his headache. I am now thinking that our weekend is ruined, because we are going to spend the rest of the weekend in the hotel room nursing whatever sickness Aaron has. He insists that he is fine and that we will still go to dinner. I ask if he wants to go to the bar while we wait for our reservations. He says that this place doesn't do that. I was a bit confused, but I don't know anything about New York, so I thought that that was normal. He says that he will instead head back down to the front desk to get me another complimentary glass of wine from the front desk. He looks a bit better when he returns and tells me that we can head up to dinner now. When we get to the hostess stand, Aaron walks right past. He had mentioned that guests can see the Empire State Building through the glass roof, so I look up. Aaron looks at me funny and asked if I could see. I keep looking up trying to find the Empire State Building. Then, I look down to watch where I am going and I see my parents and his parents. I am shocked to see them there at the hotel that Aaron and I are staying. I'm excited and ask why they're there, but my mom brushes the question to the side. She asks if Aaron and I would like a picture. It was strange how Aaron didn't fuss about the picture and even had opinions as to where to take the picture. Usually he doesn’t want to take a picture, so I was happy for his preferences. He pushes the bench to the side and holds my hands. He gets down on one knee and asks. I say, Yes! and we were engaged! The whole time that Aaron was nervous, he was not nervous about me. He was nervous because his mom had the ring until right before dinner. Her plane kept getting delayed. Aaron went down to get the second glass of wine so that he could get the ring from her. The hotel was, also, aware of what was going on, which is why they didn’t fuss to see Aaron for the second “complimentary” glass of wine. I was very surprised to say the least. We spent the rest of the weekend in New York sight seeing enjoying being engaged.
