Our Wedding

John and Emily met in February 2014 in Cape Cod, Massachusetts, while Emily was completing an internship. For the remaining six months of her internship, they went on dates ranging from fishing trips and snowboarding lessons, to house parties! They fell in love and in September 2014, when it came time for Emily to return home, John was determined to maintain their connection. The day she arrived home, he booked flights to visit her in the UK the following month. They soon became best friends, talking on the phone or Skype every day. Once Emily completed her final year of university, in May 2015, she decided to return to the States. In October 2015, after completing her first season on Cape Cod, her visa dictated that she would need to move out of state for the winter. John accompanied Emily on her 1454 mile car journey to West Palm Beach, Florida. They made the most of their trip, taking several days and stopping at many places along the way. Philadelphia, Washington D.C., Mrytle Beach and Savannah to name a few. The trip had it's testing moments, including Emily's car breaking down in Virgina, and John requiring an emergency root canal in Jacksonville! Even so, they arrived safely in Florida, before John returned home to Plymouth, MA and they began another round of long distance relationship. By this time, Emily and John knew that they wanted their future to be together. In March 2016, John proposed to Emily over Skype! She then took a trip to see him for the weekend and he gave her an engagement ring, asking her again to marry him. After getting engaged and the completion of her work season in Florida, Emily moved in with John in May 2016. On June 8th 2016, they got married in a small ceremony at Manomet Bluffs, overlooking the ocean. John's family and Emily's Mum, Andrea, were in attendance, along with a few of their friends. Due to the short timing and long distance of their wedding, many of Emily's family and friends from the UK were unable to attend. A lengthy legal process to gain residency rights and the impromptu global pandemic meant that more formal celebrations had to take a backseat. During this time period, they were able to continue to grow together and create a life for themselves in Massachusetts. They adopted their beloved pets, Stella and Gus (bunnies) and Delyth (cat) and bought their first house, settling in Carver, MA. Seven years later, Emily and John have finally been able to arrange a ceremony where Emily's family and friends will be able to celebrate with them. They are lucky enough to be able to include some of John's family and their friends from outside the UK. On June 8th 2024, Emily and John will celebrate their 8 year wedding anniversary, by reciting the same ceremony that they had back in 2016. We are so grateful to everyone who is making the commitment to attend our ceremony. It is so exciting to us to be able to share our celebrations with our loved ones from near and far. A special thank you to Emily's grandmother, or as she is known, 'Nanny', Margret James, for sharing your birthday with our special day.

Sam is Emily's younger sister. She is an award winning tattoo artist based in Oswestry. Sam has been a huge support to Emily over the years, even from thousands of miles away.

Mary is Emily's youngest sister. Mary is studying to be a nurse at Cardiff University. In their younger years, they would share "sister dates", going shopping and doing other activities together. They are always happy to share in each others joy and maintain a close relationship, even from a far.

James is John's younger brother. They grew up together in Manomet, Mass. James is an optics engineer, living in Rochester, NY with his dog, Brynn.

Andrea is an accountant living just outside of Welshpool, in the home that Emily grew up in. She has been a pillar of support to Emily and John from the beginning of their relationship. After the first time she met John, when he visited the UK in 2015, she already knew he was going to marry her daughter.

Jane is retired and living in the family home in Manomet. She has taken good care of John and Emily, even allowing them to live in her house for the first couple of years of their marriage. Jane has always treated Emily like the daughter she never had.
