On September 4th, 2020, Emily made the fateful decision to listen to Hinge's best match recommendation and swiped right on Austin's profile, specifically liking his claim of supposedly having good recipes.   Austin then kept Emily waiting for a few days before matching in a transparent attempt to make it seem like there was a long queue of competing options ahead of her.   (there wasn't)   In the days that followed, Austin and Emily started endless conversations about anything and everything until Austin eagerly invited Emily out for their first date in Seaport on September 12th of 2020.   They met for the first time while still wearing masks in the depths of COVID, but even with the mask on Austin could clearly see the bright expression on Emily's face from her eyes alone. They went on to enjoy their first dinner together at Tuscan kitchen, but barely ate because they were too busy excitedly talking to each other and fulfilling the realization of the person they had only known online. That long dinner came to an end sooner than either of them wanted, so they continued their first date walking along the Boston harbor at sunset. As the sky darkened, they made their way to Caffè dello Sport in the North End for tiramisu and espresso martinis. This spot would become a tradition for them to revisit for endless future anniversaries. Still not wanting the night to end, Austin invited Emily back to his house to watch comedy and laugh together.   Before dropping Emily back home, they expressed how much they enjoyed the night and wanted to meet again. And Austin, being as impatient as he is, invited Emily out for a second date the very next day.   Their relationship quickly accelerated from back to back dates on weekends, to days long stays during snow storms, to vacations with friends and families. As the months went by, their time apart began to feel more foreign than their time together, until they finally moved in together officially with Austin's roommates, and then into their first apartment together for just the two of them (and Graham).   There never really was a clear start date to their relationship, but rather a continuous progression marked only by the day the first I love you was exchanged. Absent a formal start date, they marked the 4th of October as their anniversary, one month after Emily's first interaction with Austin.   Three years later in 2023, Austin would propose to Emily on the 5th of October (close enough) in the beautiful mountains of Ravello. And two years after that, on the 4th of October, 2025, Austin and Emily will further solidify their everlasting relationship by marrying each other in that same spot in the presence of you, their closest friends and family.

Arriving to Italy

The easiest airport to fly into is the Leonardo da Vinci–Fiumicino Airport (FCO) in Rome. Delta and ITA offer direct flights from BOS and JFK, as well as one stop flights from LAX. We suggest arriving in Italy on the 3rd or earlier, as the travel time is long and having a day to settle in is highly recommended.

Transportation to Ravello

Once in Rome, there are a few ways to get to Ravello and the surrounding Amalfi Coast. By Train The easiest way to get to Ravello is to take the train from Rome to Salerno, and taxi or bus from there to Ravello.We are currently working on setting up a shuttle to go from the Salerno train station to Ravello. Train tickets can be purchase at:https://www.italiarail.com/pages/routes/rome-to-salerno There is also a scenic ferry that travels from Salerno to Ravello. By Car If you wish to rent a car and drive to the area, it's approximately a 4 hour drive. Please note, the roads in the area are very tight and winding, and parking can be difficult and expensive. We would not recommend this unless you are intent on travelling the coast and surrounding areas by car.

Accommodations in Ravello

The Palazzo Avino: The wedding is taking place at the beautiful Palazzo Avino, a five star hotel overlooking the mountains and coastline of Ravello with a Michelin Star restaurant on site. Our guests are encouraged to stay at the venue and enjoy all that it has to offer, but lodging here is comparatively expensive relative to other accommodations in the area. Alternative Accomodations Ravello is a very walkable area, and there are plentiful lodging options within just a few minutes walk of the Palazzo Avino. Suggested options include: Palazzo Confalone; a five star hotel just a 2 minute walk down the same street and overlooking the same beautiful view. Hotel Villa Fraulo; a four star hotel also on the same street as the Palazzo Avino, approximately a 2-minute walk. Hotel Graal; another four star hotel overlooking the mountains and coastline, approximately an 8 minute walk to the Palazzo Avino. AirBnb Villas and Suites; there are plenty of larger villas available for rent in the area on Airbnb and VRBO for any of our guests that wish to lodge with a larger group.

Transportation Back to Rome

As with the transportation to Ravello, guests can travel back to Rome via the same ferry or train options. We recommend arriving in Rome at least one day before your flight, as timing ferry's and trains with flights can be difficult on the same day. And of course, when in Rome, you may as well take the opportunity to enjoy some of the historical sites and great dining.

Scenic Sites: Duomo di Ravello- An 11th Century cathedral just a few minutes walk from the Palazzo Avino, and hosts a variety of historic art, sculptures, and crypts. Villa Cimbrone Gardens- Beautiful gardens with a panoramic view of the Amalfi Coast.Villa Rufolo- Medieval villa with historic architecture and amazing views. Waterfront: The venue is seated higher up in Ravello, but the waterfront is short distance away and easily accessible by taxi or moped. If you are staying at the Palazzo Avino, you will have complimentary access and transport to their private beach club. Otherwise, there is the Lido di Ravello beach club that is open to the public.

Capri

Capri is a beautiful island off of the Amalfi Coast that can be reached via ferry from Ravello (as well as Amalfi, Sorrento, etc). There are an abundance of boat tours and guides available to see everything the island has to offer, including the blue grotto.

Sorrento

Sorrento is a small city on the north side of the Amalfi peninsula, and is approximately an hour's drive away. We highly recommend spending a few nights here after your stay in Ravello as the city, restaurants, and culture there was among our favorites in Italy. From Sorrento, you can easily access other destinations such as Capri by ferry and Vesuvius/Pompeii by train. When in Sorrento, there is a small fishing village in a port called Bagni Sant'Anna in the Porta Marina just to the west that is easily walkable from Sorrento. Its a beautiful hidden gem with some of the best authentic Italian seafood you can get.

Vesuvius + Pompeii

Mt. Vesuvius is the large volcano overshadowing the Naples region, and hosts historical sites such as Pompeii and Herculaneum. These sites are easily accessible via the Circumvesuviana train that runs between Naples and Sorrento.

Rome

Finally, as your trip comes to an end you will likely find yourself back in Rome for a night or two before flying back home. There is plenty to do in Rome, whether its the Colosseum, the Pantheon, the Roman forums, the Vatican and Basilica, the plethora of restaurants, and much much more. We highly recommend researching what sites you'd want to see and booking tours in advance, as tours are pretty much the only way to see these sites. We have had good experiences booking our tours from getyourguide.com, but there are plenty of other tour providers to explore.
