River Street is full of popular bars, restaurants and tourist shops as well as some fun nested-away local art and trinket shops! Some of my favorite shop spots are Shell Yeah!(sea shells and ocean-themed), Gallery 209(local art) and Something Different(tons of trinkets and rare finds!).
Also stop by Byrd's Famous Cookies for a fantastic selection of tiny delicious cookies and free samples!
A local's hotspot, Bay Street is where you'll find most of the locals of Savannah (and most of the bartenders!) hanging out after a long day. Stop by Churchill's (where we're having our Welcome Party) and enjoy the fabulous Mac and Cheese or walk a couple blocks down to sing karaoke at Bay Street Blues!
Looking for a shopping day? AKA the most city part of Savannah, Broughton Street has all of the shops you love and more! Walk down the whole street to not only find popular shops like Banana Republic but also hidden gems like vintage store and boutiques.
Want to be super fancy? There's a Paris Market you could get lost in! Also Leopold's Ice Cream is FANTASTIC but be prepared to wait in a line!
AKA where the tourists go, but don't let that stop you from getting to know the place! Wet Willie's is a great place to get an alcoholic slush and the Bar Bar is a great underground bar (Shia LaBeouf got kicked out from there)
You can also go visit my parents' favorite spot which is the TreeHouse! Great live music and an upstairs balcony view of the whole market!
Located right next to Ellis Square and City market is West Congress Street, the popular get-together and get away from tourists spot for most of the SCAD students! I'm determined to find the bar that has a maze of balconies, vines and outside hang out spots in the back.
The Rail Pub makes amazing burgers outside and Social Club in general is a fun place to get together and meet new people. You will most likely run into SCAD students all along this street!
About a 15 minute walk from downtown but well worth the walk, the beautiful 30 acre Forsyth Park is a lovely place to relax, stroll and hang out! The Forsyth Park fountain is a popular spot to snap photos and the surrounding areas include beautiful trees with hanging moss and quiet areas for picnics.
Enjoy one of the bride's favorite hobbies (and main method of transportation) by hopping on a bike to explore the city!
Interested in walking ghost tours? Haunted pub crawls?
Savannah offers A LOT of ghost tours, but most of them are filled with false stories of horror and murder (I'm looking at you Ghosts and Gravestones!) Started by Savannah Historian James Caskey, Cobblestone Tours offers the true stories behind some of the hauntings in Savannah, both good and bad! (If you want an inside look, check out the book Haunted Savannah)
This also happens to be the tour Mike and I went on during our first visit to Savannah! We had the pleasure of getting to be the only two on the tour and got extra stories from the tour guide!
Also offering Ghost Tours and a 'spirited' ghost tour if you want drinks along the way, this tour company also hosts great reviews and offers!
One of my favorite local hotspots, Bella Napoli offers great Italian food in a small welcoming setting!
A local favorite and occasional celebrity hotspot, Lulu's chocolate bar offers fantastic desserts and cocktails! I went here at least once a month in college and even spotted Paul Giamatti on a date night with his wife at the bar!
Want to see one of my all time favorite views in Savannah? Located above the Cotton Sail Hotel is the great Top Deck! (Literally you have to go into the Cotton Sail Hotel and take the elevator)
My friend Mary and I stumbled upon Top Deck one night while bar-hopping and made it a regular spot to hang out! I even made friends with some of the bartenders and chef who ended up asking me to taste her new dishes often. (The desserts are *chef's kiss!)
Make sure to go close to sunset to catch the jaw-dropping views of the sunset over the river!
Are you a sandwich person? Yes? No? Try it anyway! Zunzi's is a local favorite and SCAD hotspot, famous for it's South African inspired sandwiches and Shit Yeah sauce! Last time I visited it is take-out only but there are plenty of places around to take a seat and enjoy!
I'm gonna be honest with you, the Foxy Loxy (which is the sister cafe to this place) has my heart but is WAY too far away from downtown unless you want to drive or bike. So let me introduce the Coffee Fox! Fabulous espresso drinks and a great local place to chill out!
Ever wonder why the Savannah College of Art and Design mascot is called Art the Bee? Me too!! What are we going to do, buzz around our opponents? ANYWAY, maybe the Savannah Bee Company has something to do with it! If you really like honey or just a fantastic shop to get lost in, Savannah Bee Company has two locations and offers so many different types of products with honey! And you can get free tastings!
Looking for some old fashioned arcade games, drinking and fun? I have yet to visit but The Portal Arcade opened up recently in Savannah and looks like a blast!
I'm not gonna lie, breakfast food has a special place in my heart. But J. Christopher's has it's own little special place INSIDE that special place in my heart, it is just TOO GOOD! A must visit for those with breakfast and brunch cravings. Also across the street is the beautiful Cathedral Basilica of St. John the Baptist, a great sight to start the day!
Like Karaoke? I know some of you do! A local favorite, you won't find as many tourists wandering into McDonough's! Not far from downtown, this Irish-themed bar hosts a variety of characters and locals that love to make friends and sing their hearts out! Don't want to walk far from downtown? Check out Bay Street Blues for karaoke as well!
Ask me about the time a drunk man thought I was Sara Bareilles!
That happened at Abe's on Lincoln, a local hangout but also a place where I found people from all over the world came to hang out. One of my favorite places to meet people from all over! It can get a little cramped but the rooms have some little hangout areas as well as an outside porch area.
One of Mike and I's favorite restaurants, Churchill's was one of our first stops in Savannah and is now hosting our Welcome Party! Come by for fantastic baked Mac and Cheese or a Giant Pretzel! We have yet to try food we haven't loved!
Our wonderful photographer Vitor Lindo also has some great suggestions listed on his website:
