What is Stanley like?

Stanley is a place unlike any other! The town of Stanley is surrounded by National Forest land, and it is the gateway community to multiple wilderness areas and the world famous Middle Fork of the Salmon River. Lakes, rivers, and endless mountains and trails are just minutes away. Stanley also has some great restaurants, live music events, and classic mountain lodging. Nonetheless, Stanley is tiny (and we love it like that!). While it sees thousands of visitors each summer (and a fair bit throughout the winter too), the year-round population is only about 100 residents. Stanley does not have Ubers, Lyfts, or taxis. There is plenty of cell service and wifi in the town of Stanley and in just about any lodging you stay in, but it becomes spotty outside of town. This is one of the things that makes Stanley and the Sawtooth area so special - unwinding, unplugging, and going with the flow.

Are there hotels or Air BnB's in Stanley?

Yes! There are a number of lodging options in Stanley, ranging from higher-end mountain lodges and guest ranches, mom-and-pop inns, rental cabins, or the Mountain Village Hotel (~100 rooms, largest lodging option in town). We have provided a list of some of our top recommendations for places to stay (who also happen to be owned/run by some of our friends - check them out first and let them know we sent ya!). You will find extensive lodging options in the Wood River Valley (Ketchum/Hailey/Sun Valley), all of which are about 1 hour from Smiley Creek Lodge and 1.25 hours from Stanley.

What is the weather like in Stanley?

June is a positively lovely month in the Sawtooths. Mountain peaks are still snow-capped, the meadows in the valley are luscious and green, and wildflowers are abundant. Daytime temperatures are generally in the mid-60s to mid-70s, while nighttime lows can be in the 40s. It's not uncommon to have a dusting of snow in some parts of the mountains all 12 months out of the year. Don't worry, we have a plan if the weather does turn chillier! You should expect mild temperatures, but pack those layers just in case. If you are interested in camping for any time while you're visiting (we really hope you do!), reach out to either of us and we will make sure you have what you need to be comfortable and prepared.

What should I wear?

It's not too often we get all gussied up - so we're going all out! Which for us, looks like semi-formal, mountain western. Funky cowboy, floral dresses, boots and bolo ties. We really just want folks to be comfortable, come as you are, and be ready to dance! There will be grass and uneven ground at the wedding/reception - any Crocs should be in sport mode.

What about transportation?

Having access to a vehicle will be necessary. Car rentals are available at all of the nearest airports, but please be advised that there may be less options available at the Sun Valley Airport. There is excellent, free, public transportation in the Hailey/Sun Valley/Ketchum area, if your trip includes any time in that area. We will be providing a free shuttle service to/from all lodging in Stanley and Smiley Creek Lodge (venue) on the day of our wedding. There may be options for shuttles-for-hire from Smiley Creek Lodge to Ketchum.
