Jake and Emily met on a chilly September night in Boston. Emily had just moved to the East Coast for school a month before, and was getting settled in to graduate school. Jake was enjoying life in the city with all his closest friends.

Emily's roommate could sense that she needed a night away from her books and invited her to a party, so out they went.

The night began at an apartment in Somerville, where Emily met so many new people she was slightly overwhelmed. Little did she know that these were faces she'd come to recognize as her friends.

As the night progressed, the party moved to the city proper. Jake thought Emily was effortlessly cool in jeans and a denim jacket. Emily had moved with a single suitcase and didn't own a real jacket. In the basement of a bar downtown, they met on the dance floor. Emily was attempting to dance, though she isn't very good at it, Jake found it endearing. Jake, ever the music aficionado, made a derisive comment about the music only to find that Emily loved the song. They laughed together for the rest of the night.

They continued to seek each other out at group hangouts for the next few weeks, before agreeing to go on a date. Their first date was October 20th, Emily's birthday. They attended a Halloween party the week after as a couple.

The rest is history.
