It was around the last week of October 2023 when I met Kai. We both swiped up on each other in this LDS dating app called “Mutual.” He said he was initially attracted to the fact that I was an indoorsy, introverted gamer girl that liked DnD, and that I was the perfect height, at 5’2”. I swiped up on him because I read about his DnD and writing experience. I also liked the way he looked, and that he was a biology major like me.

We discussed going to Cafe Rio, but when we first met up with each other outside my apartment building, we got distracted by the week-long Halloween fair that was happening on my street. We decided to have fun at the fair instead of going to Cafe Rio. This plan fell through, however, because the lines to each of the minigames and food trucks were so long that we couldn't tell where any of them started. So, Kai suggested as a last ditch effort that we just go to Righteous Slice, a local brick-oven pizza place on the same street corner.

Our first date went incredibly well, and that led to a 2nd, and finally 3rd date, on Halloween day, where I asked to be his girlfriend while we were eating breakfast crepes for lunch on campus (granted, he did open up the conversation about being exclusive first, but he put the ball in my court to move forward). Just hours before I asked to be his girlfriend, I called the guy I had previously been seeing (not exclusive) on the phone and canceled my Halloween plans with him, to be with Kai on Halloween night instead.

From there, our relationship grew exponentially. We fell in love and just kind of naturally developed to the point where we started talking about serious topics, like marriage. There wasn’t really a strong “aha” moment in the temple or a grand epiphany in the middle of the night. We just kept dating each other and praying until we both felt it was right. Six-ish months after we met, Kai proposed to me in the Thomas Gardens with Lindor chocolates and red rose petals surrounding me in the shape of a heart. Of course I said yes. We chose our wedding date to be on August 17th, in the Jordan River Temple. We look forward to seeing your happy faces!
