Once upon a time in a busy over-populated city, a man from a far-away land fell in love with a girl from small town Ohio. You may ask, but how? With modern technology, our love story is nothing like a fairy tale.
From the girl from small town Ohio:
You never know how hard it is to meet new people until you move back home after four years of college, start professional school and get your soul sucked away in studying. I wanted to meet new people after moving back to Ohio and a friend of mine recommended I put myself out there. “What’s the worst that can happen?” he asked. My close group of pharmacy school friends recommended Hinge. A dating app. I was not thrilled with the suggestion but did not have anything to lose for trying. One day, a picture came across my screen of some 27-year-old African dude. I was unsure of my gut feelings or thoughts and decided it would be easier to walk away. I figured he would be lost in the algorithm of the app but when I picked it up again a few hours later, he was still there. I again did not want to decide. Avoidance is my strong suit if you can’t tell. I put the app away and said that I would not decide. Three days later, this random African dude was still on my screen. I guessed that fate or the Lord was telling me to decide. When I did like one of his photos, a message popped up saying, “I love seeing your passion for people in your eyes.” It was the first time in my entire life that I felt like someone saw me for me. The moment I laid eyes on him in person, I knew that I was going to marry him. Cliché I know but the truth nonetheless.
From the foreigner:
After completing my one-year service to my country, Nigeria, I was excited to explore my options for continued education in the U.S. I stumbled upon this school in the U.S. call Miami University in a minuscule town in Ohio. My visa agent was so excited for me that she even booked my flight to Miami, Florida. Too bad the Ohio weather isn’t as nice. There were no beaches just lowly corn fields. When I came to the U.S. in April 2017, it was hard for me to meet new people while juggling my responsibilities with school, working and looking for a job. A friend suggested online dating to meet new people. My first couple of attempts flew South for the winter. Guess they liked Miami, Florida better too. After finishing my coursework in 2019, I moved to the city with a friend, who grew to be one of my closest comrades, with hope of getting a job. I submitted more applications than one man could count with no luck of finding a job. One faithful day, I went to pick up my friend from work and he advised that I did not need to put my life on hold just because I was looking for a job. He recommended that I think about dating even while looking for a dream job. Hopefully, I could meet the woman of my dreams in the process. I really did not give it a thought because dating is expensive and at that point, I was penniless until I found a job. After a while, I downloaded this dating app, again. This girl popped up on my screen with so much passion in her eyes wearing a stethoscope and was teaching a small kid. I was fascinated. At that point, my mind told me, “she is the woman of my dreams.” I knew we could build our dreams together because I have had passion for humanity no wonder my nickname was Passion. The rest of the story:We have done a lot of learning and growing together over the last almost year that we have been together. The Lord has blessed us with each other and the love we share together. We pray each day that we grow closer to God while growing with each other.
