Joe first met Emily in concert band at the University of South Dakota, when he noticed a cute girl playing the coolest instrument in the entire band. So he naturally, went to talk to her. In their music degree, they made several mutual friends and slowly became great friends with each other. Finally, in February of 2022, Joe and Emily started dating one another. What was 2 years of friendship now bloomed into a beautiful relationship. Throughout their college years, both Emily and Joe supported one another in concerts, tests, music history papers, and in the new chapter of their lives as music educators.

Joe and Emily share in a love for nature and family. The "Sexe Family Vacation" became a regular yearly occurrence since the first year they were dating. Emily was so happy to be welcomed by the Sexe family, especially by Joe's nieces and nephews. Over time, she felt she had become a part of the family, and Joe and Emily's love was stronger than ever.

The Sexe family vacation of July 2025 started normal, but Joe had been keeping a major surprise from Emily. It was this vacation that Joe decided would be the perfect opportunity for him to ask Emily to marry him, in front of a waterfall like she had always dreamed. (It worked). Now Emily and Joe are awaiting their marriage, when they can finally have adventures every day, together.
