Our Wedding

On January 24 1994, at least two babies were born in the province of Nova Scotia. 19 years later, those two babies met as Chad and Emma, through mutual friends at StFX. They did not attend the same university, but they ran in to each other occasionally over the years, from Skunk Den parties to Cheers in Halifax.

Our Story

It took nearly 10 years, two separate moves in Calgary and a global pandemic to bring these two together, but 5 years ago, they had their first date on a wet and windy dog park walk, complete with CoVid-friendly social distancing.

Over the years, they have built their life together around a love for family and friends, travel, the outdoors and their dog Indie!

On December 2, 2023, after hiding the ring for an entire 10 day trip to the UK, Chad popped the question while the two were cutting down their Christmas tree, in a spot outside of Calgary that the two visit every year. And the rest is history!

We are so excited to celebrate our love with you!

 Emma and Emily went to physiotherapy school together, but didn’t become best friends until they worked together at the Aberdeen Hospital in New Glasgow. They were then roommates in Calgary during the CoVid-19 lockdown where they were forced (and chose) to spend nearly every waking moment together

Emma is one of Emma’s childhood best friends, having gone through their school days together as Emma Squared. They have remained close over the years, and are excited to both stand in each other's weddings this summer!

 Emily (or more commonly known as Pigs) was one of Emma’s roommates at StFX, where they shared countless fun and funny memories! They pick up right where they left off every year when they get together on the beach in Ingonish. Emma is very excited to also be standing in Emily's wedding this summer!

Amanda has been a roomie through it all! From StFX to Physio School, Emma and Amanda have lived together through the high highs and the low lows (Halifax rodents...). And Amanda graciously continues to let Emma crash on her sofa bed every summer when she is visiting in Nova Scotia :)

Another StFX roomie and Physio School pal, Amy and Emma met on the very first day at X. They spent many fun years giggling on the kitchen couch and closing out dancefloors, and continue to do so 13 years later!

Ryan is Chad's brother. Chad and Emma enjoy spending time with Ryan on visits to Nova Scotia. They appreciate his patience and coaching on the golf course.

Legend has it, George and Chad met on the jungle gym on the first day of grade primary. They formed a strong friendship and had many great times together over the years. Though they now live far apart, they always pick up right where they left off.

George Lochead

Chad and Peter became friends in middle school when they played soccer together and discovered they had many common interests, including books and video games. Chad can always rely on Peter for a good time and lots of laughter.

Peter McDowell

Chad and Jared became great friends in high school. They found common cause in seeking out adventure together, eventually planning out and embarking on an epic month long backpacking trip through Europe. 

Jared Watt

Chad and Ben met in University through Ben's fellow Groomsman George. They became roommates in Calgary while on co-op placements where they took on Western Canada together and have continued to do so almost ten years later.

When is the RSVP deadline? Please RSVP via our website by JUNE 1, 2025! Can I bring a date? Please check your online RSVP for any allotted +1s.&nbsp; Where should I park? There is plenty of free parking at The Inverary. Is there a room block set up? There is a large room block set up at the venue itself, The Inverary Resort. To book, please call 902-295-3500, ext +1 for reservations with the Aucoin/Sutherland wedding. Please have your booking finalized by June 15, as we will release unbooked rooms at that time. Should you wish to stay elsewhere, you are welcome to organize this yourself. There are many lovely accommodations available in Baddeck. We have some additional options listed on the Travel page. What is the Inverary? The Inverary is a beautiful resort on the shores of the Bras d’Or lakes, which offer a wide variety of rooms, suites and cabins to book. On site, there is a spa, hot tub and indoor pool, as well as numerous water craft for rent, such as kayaks and paddle boards. Additionally there are various restaurant options on site, including The Narrows Cafe and Bar, which offers live music every night, and the Lakeside Restaurant, which has a fabulous view of the Bras D’Or Lakes. Are the ceremony and reception venues close to each other? The ceremony and reception will both be on site at the Inverary, very much within walking distance of each other, and the on-site accommodations. Are children invited? Though we love your littles, we respectively ask that they stay home, as this is an 18+ event. What should I wear? Weather-permitting, our wedding will be both outdoors (ceremony and cocktail hour) and indoors (dinner and reception). What is the bridal party wearing?&nbsp; The bridal party will be wearing shades of green. Is breakfast included? There is a buffet breakfast available on site at the LakeSide restaurant for a $20 fee.&nbsp; What if I have dietary restrictions? Dietary restrictions will be accommodated. Please note any dietary restrictions when you RSVP with your formal invitation. What if I have mobility issues? The Inverary is quite a large resort with many grassy and hilly surfaces. The ceremony location is located at least a couple minutes walk from the main lodge. If you require any assistance with mobility on the grounds, there are golf carts available for rent. Please contact the Inverary to organize rentals. Is the Inverary dog-friendly? There are a number of dog-friendly rooms at the Inverary. These must be booked ahead and there is a $25 extra fee.&nbsp; Who do I contact if I have other questions? Q + A

The Inverary is located in Baddeck, Nova Scotia, which is a 3-hour drive from Halifax, and 1- hour drive from Sydney, Nova Scotia.&nbsp; For those traveling by plane, there is an airport both in Halifax and Sydney. There are more flight options available in to Halifax, so this may be the more convenient option for most people, despite the longer drive.

There are shuttle options available from both the Halifax and Sydney Airport, to Baddeck, some of which are listed below. Alternatively, some may find that renting a car at the airport to be a more convenient option. REMEMBER! Summer is busy in Nova Scotia! Car rentals tend to go quickly in summertime. Please make your arrangements as soon as possible for the best rates and availability.

If you are looking to make a longer trip, Baddeck sits at the starting point of the Cabot Trail, a world-famous, scenic drive through the Highlands of Cape Breton. There are countless hikes, beaches and lookouts along the way. Wedding Registry

The most important thing to us is that you're able to come and celebrate our wedding. However, if you wish to give a gift, we would graciously accept a contribution towards our Honeymoon to New Zealand in early 2026!

If you wish to purchase a physical gift, we have created a small registry as well, which is linked below. Our address is attached to the registry for shipping. Please consider that we will be travelling to our wedding as well, so we will be limited in what we can transport back.
