Hi everyone! We can't wait to see you on the beautiful island of Mount Desert. Celebrating our wedding in such a beautiful setting comes with some logistical challenges, so here is all you need to know to plan your trip!
Flights
For airports, there are three options to choose from.
Bangor (BGR) - Bangor International Airport, located 1 hour from Mount Desert Island, is the closest major airport to the venue. Flying in and out of this airport will be the best option for most people, especially those with a tight travel window!
Portland (PWM) - Portland International Jetport is approximately 3 hours from Mount Desert Island, but for those planning to make a full vacation out of the trip, it may be a great option! Portland is Maine's culture hub and filled with amazing restaurants, night life and things to do. It is also where we live!
Bar Harbor Airport (BHB) - Bar Harbor Airport the closest airport to the event and also the highest priced. It's located about 25 minutes from the venue but will cost 2-3 times more than flying into Bangor or Portland!
Getting Around
We HIGHLY recommend investing in a rental car for your trip. There is no Uber or Lyft on the island, and very limited taxi services.
Where to stay
Bar Harbor $$$ - Bar Harbor is the crown jewel of Mount Desert Island. Very touristy, but lots to do and everything is completely walkable! Our favorite restaurants include Side Street Cafe, Choco-Latte, Havana, Geddy's, Siam Orchid, The Chart Room and so many others! 20-30 minutes from venue, depending on traffic.
Southwest Harbor $$ - Southwest Harbor is a beautiful little town that has a charming village area. Great restaurants like The Upper Deck, Beals Lobster, Eat-a-Pita, Little Notch Bakery, Batson River Fish Camp, Buttercup Bakery, the Bowsprit Bar and Clark Point Cafe. 10-15 minutes from venue.
Trenton $ - Trenton is the last town you will pass before crossing the bridge onto Mount Desert Island. Trenton is a quiet town, not very walkable, but flush with Lobster Pounds! It is also home to the Great Maine Lumberjack Show!
All other towns on island $$-$$$ - Towns like Somesville, Northeast Harbor, Bernard and Tremont sometimes fall under the umbrella of "Mount Desert". If you are looking at places in any of these areas, we have great knowledge of the island and can provide guidance and recommendations!
