Our Story
Jonathan and Emma met at their summer research program at St. Olaf college, where they both studied chemistry. On May 28th, 2019, they both attended an orientation and were introduced by a mutual friend (thanks again, Tori!) They were very excited to learn that they’d be working together in a physical chemistry lab—and there was indeed a lot of chemistry! They began spending more time together, even after working together for eight hours every day. Their first “outing” together was to Culver’s but their first real date was dinner at the Tavern in Northfield a few weeks later. They began dating August 1st, 2019, at the end of their research program and continued dating for the duration of their college years. After Jonathan graduated college in 2021, Emma and Jonathan moved to Indiana to attend graduate school at Purdue University together, where Jonathan currently studies Aerospace Engineering and Emma studies Physical Chemistry. They moved into their first house with their cat Quark, and were soon joined by a little kitten named Muon. The summer after their first year in graduate school, Jonathan proposed to Emma on the shore of Lake Michigan against the Chicago skyline (and she said yes!) Jonathan and his older sister Andrea planned the perfect day, including Emma’s favorite coffee, a trip to the science museum, and a celebratory dinner after the proposal! Emma and Jonathan are continuing to pursue their doctoral degrees at Purdue with the support of their loving kittens (and families and friends). They are so excited to start this next chapter of their lives together and to celebrate with everyone they love!
