At the start of 2020, both Emma and Zac were newly single and not looking forward to putting themselves back out there. The plan for both was to focus on themselves, work, and let the romantic chips fall where they may.

Then, COVID happened.

Locked inside of their homes for the foreseeable future, both Emma and Zac decided to spend their days swiping left and right on dating apps knowing the chances of meeting anyone in that moment were bleak, but it was better than sitting home all day worrying about the world.

On April 13, 2020, Emma and Zac matched on Bumble. Emma asked Zac how he was handling the pandemic, and Zac responded by sharing a picture of his house plants that he had just named (Jaxson, Lola, and Margaret, if memory serves).

After a few weeks of back and forth banter, Zac made his move.

"What if I just happened to snag a coffee or something in Bishop Arts while you happen to be walking your dog tomorrow?"

At the time, Emma lived a 5-minute walk to a cute little shop called Hola, so a social-distanced, curbside coffee date was made. On April 25, 2020, the two met outside Hola (no hugging, handshakes, nothing) and sat 6 feet apart while sipping coffee and getting to know each other for two hours.

The rest truly is history.

Since that day in April, Emma and Zac haven't gone a day without speaking. Meeting during the pandemic was literally finding love in a hopeless place, and enabled the two to get to know each other on a deep level, quickly. There were no distractions, obligations, or games the summer of 2020—just Emma and Zac, face-to-face, leaning into their love story.

In April of 2021, Emma moved in and, six months later over Labor Day weekend, Zac proposed inside their home in front of Emma's parents, her sister and sister-in-law (who were in town visiting with their twins, Jack and Sloane), and some of her best friends. It was the perfect intimate moment, and the perfect proposal for them.

From the beginning, Emma and Zac have capitalized on the fact that their initials are EZ. Although they met during one of the hardest years for the world, everything about their love has been EZ from the start.
