Emma and Cody’s story began long before it officially started. They met in college and spent three years as familiar faces — friends in passing who crossed paths often but never quite at the right moment. That changed during Emma’s senior year, when timing finally stepped in and turned a quiet friendship into something more.

Almost immediately, distance became part of their relationship. Cody’s job took him to North Carolina, while Emma remained in Lynchburg, beginning two years of long distance filled with weekend travel, packed bags, and countdowns to the next visit. Just as they found their rhythm, Emma’s job brought her back home to Michigan, adding another two years apart and bringing their long-distance journey to nearly four years.

They didn’t let the miles win. Instead, Emma and Cody learned how to make even the smallest moments count. Sometimes that meant airport meetups for lunch, or Cody bringing coffee to Emma’s gate during a quick turn between flights. Whether it was five minutes or five days together, they never took that time for granted.

Somewhere between airports and itineraries, they also found time to explore the world — traveling to six countries together. Cody happily humoring Emma’s many ambitious and occasionally last-minute travel itineraries, but each adventure became another reminder that no matter the location, they were always happiest together.

The most spontaneous trip of all led them to Fiji, planned less than 24 hours before boarding the plane. On March 1st, during a walk to dinner, Cody propped his phone against a tree, got down on one knee, and asked Emma to spend forever with him. Completely surprised and overwhelmed in the best way, Emma said yes without hesitation.
