Hello friends and family, welcome to our wedding website!
So, lets take you all the way back to the beginning. We first officially met freshman year at LaGrange College, all the way back in the year 2020. We had known of each other during the fall semester but did not officially meet until we both attended a Washington D.C. trip that January that neither remembered the other was on. After that trip, Emma and I saw each other around campus a few times and spoke to each other even fewer times but there was not much socialization between the two of us.
Fast forward about 3 years, it was the last semester of my senior year and Emma had made a trip down to see her sister and Maggie White before graduation. One night, Hannah Godfrey was having her birthday celebration at Wild Leap and of course I showed up to the event fashionably late. As I approached the table, there was only one seat open and that seat just happened to be next to a really pretty blonde. I sat down next to Emma and exchanged some hellos as I was dealt into the game of Cards Against Humanity that was being played by the table. According to Emma, she was flirting with me the whole time by showing me her cards and asking which one to use, but Im so oblivious I wouldnt know there was a car crash unless I was in it. But evidently I said the right things because here we are. Also I want to take this time to admit I was never actually telling her the best cards to use, usually the second or third best. What can I say, if you cant win, dont play.Â
We hung out a few more times that week before Emma left LaGrange and headed back to Hartwell, but there was one big thing I was sure of, I had a crush. I was trying to go about finding a way to get in touch with her when out of the blue, somebody added me on Snapchat. Theres not sugarcoating it here, I was ecstatic. By the way of Snapchat, text message, and FaceTime, we spent the next month getting to know each other and making plans to finally meet in person as a couple. Finally, the long-awaited day came. I found myself driving to meet her at the Georgia Aquarium. My heart was racing, my palms were sweaty, my knees weak, arms were heavy. Its a good thing I didnt have Mamas spaghetti beforehand. When she got out of the car, I forgot how to breathe. She looked beautiful, and I made sure I told her just as much. The aquarium was amazing, we left and went to Hartwell were I got to meet Mr. Phillip and Mrs. Leigh, along with my best friend Amos. There was no better start to the beginning of the rest of my life than that day.Â
Now we make another jump, and this time its to December 27th, 2023. We had just finished lunch and Caroline and Kate were sufficiently on all of my nerves, as little sisters tend to do. I had a plan, somewhat, that we were going to recreate our first date and then I was going to ask this perfect girl to marry me. As we were walking to the aquarium, someone decided we should stop and take pictures in the gazebos beside the river next to the aquarium, and right then I knew that was my moment. Daddy and I very covertly got the ring (Daddy walked up to Mama and just shoved his hand in her purse and dug it out), he brought it to me, and I said something very cool and suave about the situation, i.e. I feel like Im going to throw up. I approached Emma, made another really cool remark I had spent about a week thinking about, and I hit a knee and asked her to marry me. Spoiler alert…
SHE SAID YES!
