Emma and Micah first met at Valdosta State University in the Fall of 2021 in an upper-level United States History course over the 1920s. On the first day of classes Micah came into the room and sat in the desk right behind Emma. Emma remembered seeing Micah around campus last year and instantly texted her roommate and informed her about the 'cute football boy from Palms' making an appearance in her class.

Emma was a History major, so it was a given that she would take that course. However, Micah was a Criminal Justice major, so it was just by chance that he would be enrolled in an upper-level history class. That same day they had yet another history class together, this time they sat on opposite sides of the room but still recognized each other. Emma and Micah didn’t talk for at least the first month of class but eventually started to have small conversations before and after class and then exchanged numbers. Micah and Emma met for their first study date in Odum Library on a Sunday afternoon writing papers and studying for upcoming tests which turned into their first dinner at Which-Wich.

As they got closer, they would have lunch dates at Palms Dining Hall on campus between their shared history classes, attend church together at CrossRoads Baptist in Valdosta, and hang out around campus. Micah officially asked Emma out after a couple weeks on October 19th, 2021. They instantly became inseparable. Micah and Emma still don’t know why Micah was placed into two upper-level history courses but have never been so thankful for it.

Weeks turned into months, and months turned into years with Emma and Micah traveling between Cairo, Fargo, Forsyth, Kingsland, Tifton, and Valdosta (They worked through about a year of long distance due to teaching, the police academy, and the Game Warden academy). About two and a half years into dating on May 29th, 2024 after a day on the river, Micah and Emma came back 'home' to the Okefenokee Swamp where Micah proposed to Emma while she was doing laundry. Emma always told Micah 'she would know when he bought the ring' - but she truly had no idea.

Emma and Micah are now planning to be married on May 31st, 2025 in Emma's hometown church in Cairo, Georgia.
