Love on the Fire Ground

Our story:

I never thought we would be writing this down for our wedding website but here we are!

It was a rainy day on November 3, 2021. I was at the MDC North Campus to turn in my paperwork to begin the process to enter fire academy. I was nervous and had all my papers in a folder, ready to submit. COVID-19 was still a concern so the majority of the applicants were wearing masks, myself included. As a final step in the application process, we got sent to the cashier to pay the fee. I got in a short line with only two people in it: an older lady and a tall, dark and handsome man in a mask.

I’m standing in line, talking myself though the nerves of what this new fire journey will bring when I get asked a question: “Hey, you were in the information meeting for fire academy right?” Me: “yeah, I was! My name is Ena.” Him: “my name is Faust.” A few words exchanged about how our paths led to firefighting, and as we were finishing up with the cashier and about to walk out the door he says, “let me give you my number in case you have any questions or something. We’ll be classmates so I’m here for you.” Me: “sure!”

I walked away thinking, did he ask for my number because he’s a nice guy or…nahh. He’s just a nice guy.

He in fact was a nice guy but he was also a smart guy.

Also, can we talk about how he just assumed he would have all the answers to my questions? 🙄 I mean to be fair, I did anxiously text him about buying uniform and asking for clarification about mass emails we were sent BUT still, so presumptuous! (Faust: In reality I was interested and wanted her number, to be fair).

Fire academy started and we somehow ended up in the same squad! Not that it mattered because it was like Faust forgot who I was lol. He didn’t really talk to me and it felt like he didn't even know me. I had to convince my classmates I knew him before we started because he wouldn’t even look at me.

(Faust: We did talk but I wanted to keep my distance. I had made a promise to myself that I wouldn't let anything distract me in academy. My plan was to make a move after academy, but I couldn't wait that long. So when her birthday outing came up, it was the perfect opportunity.)

I thought he was cute but I completely put it out of my mind and didn’t pay him any mind either. That was until my birthday came around and a few of my classmates wanted to celebrate with me at the Ale House. Faust sat next to me!

The next week he offered to work out with me to train for upcoming physical tests we had for different fire departments. So we started hanging out. I was a nervous wreck, but honestly thought there was no way he was interested in me.

We had our tests scheduled and Faust proposed a bet, "If you beat my time I'll buy you lunch" to which I replied "deal." Well, I didn't pass my test lol and I was devastated. Faust called me and I was crying. Trying to cheer me up he told me, "I still owe you lunch." We had planned to workout as well.

After our workout, Faust asked if I had time to go out for a bite and I agreed. I got into my car and immediately thought to myself, "wait a second… is this a date?"

We met up at Blaze pizza. We talked and laughed and just really hit it off. As we're walking to our cars he says “hey, so uh. I like you.” I froze and literally stared off into the distance. I really couldn’t believe what I heard because I thought this man was indifferent towards me!

(Faust: Truthfully I had my eye on her since the day I met her, little did she know).

He noticed I wasn’t saying anything and to shake me out of it he said “uhh how do you feel?” I quickly said “what? Uh. I had no idea. I think I like you too.”

I drove home on cloud nine. And the rest is history. We’ve been dating for two years and have grown to become best friends. We finished MDC academy and then got hired in the same class at MDFR. It's been a beautiful ride.

I never thought the Lord would send me someone like him in this way, but I’m so grateful. He’s my biggest blessing.

On august 5, 2024 he proposed to me on a rock in front of horseshoe bend, and made me the happiest girly ever.

Can’t wait to marry you, cutie. Thanks for being confident enough to ask for my number and tell me you’d be there for me. I can firmly say you kept your word.
