This sounds complicated. What do I need to do?

Your responsibilities as a foreign guest are essentially: 1) Get to Japan by May 30th (your hotel room for May 30th and the May 31st are on us! You will just be responsible for getting you/your family here and any accommodations before/after the weekend of the wedding) 2) Take a train to the wedding venue (we'll also be providing tickets to/from the venue and your accommodations or the airport. Just coordinate with Eric what your other travel plans are and how to hand over the tickets)

Is there anything that I need to know about traveling to Japan?

Here are a few tips to help get organized: 1) Make sure you take care of you and your family's passports 2-3 months ahead of time. 2) Have a plan for cell service. Some carriers offer temporary international plans. You can also buy temporary SIM cards or portable Wifi units at the airport in Japan that are easy to set up and work perfectly well. 3) Some American credit cards work in foreign countries, even though the currencies are different. If yours doesn't there it is simple to get Japanese Yen at a currency counter at the airport. 4) Plan on getting a transit card (known as an IC card or SUICA card here) when you get to the airport. They are available for free as long as you deposit money onto it and are simple to get by either going to the tourism counter or a self-serve vending machine, depending on the airport.

Why isn't there a registry listed?

As is customary in Japan, we're not expecting gifts other than cash for our wedding.

How much should I give?

We're honored that you'll be offering us anything, so any amount will do. If you want to follow customs, you can check this website for ballpark numbers: https://japandictionary72.com/money-gift-goshugi-in-japan/

Which airport should I fly into?

Haneda is a bit closer to central Tokyo than Narita, but both airports are accessible to the city by train and have all of the accommodation that is needed to be ready for your chip (SIM cards, cash exchange, and IC cards).

What will the temperature be like?

The average temperature is around 23.6°C (74.48°F) during the day, and 14.6°C (58.28°F) at night. The refreshing spring weather of May is perfect for denim and short sleeves. It's a good idea to also carry a light coat in case it gets a little chilly at night.
