It all began in 2012. Our freshman year at Lubbock High. We were in the same class and the first three words Kanani ever said to me were “Are you Filipino?”. I knew in that moment that she was blind and I wanted to be part of her life. Fast forward a few months and we had blossomed a friendship. I decided to finally ask her out at a Quinceañera. She told me the next most important words to me. “I’ll tell you Monday.” It was worth the wait. She said “yes”.
