Eric and Katelyn met in May of 2018 at the wedding of their mutual friends - Eric was a Groomsman and Katelyn was a friend of the Bride. They spent the night on the dance floor where Eric showed off his moves and apparently his voice as he sang Toto to the crowd (though no one besides him remembers this detail). It must have been an impressive performance as he was able to secure Katelyn's phone number by the end of the night. Eric and Katelyn went on their first date at Magpies on Park Ave the week after the wedding and spent the rest of Summer 2018 exploring Rochester while Katelyn was home completing an eight week summer research project. While their eight week summer romance was coming to a close, it was just the beginning of their story - they jumped into a long distance relationship and spent the next three years commuting from Rochester to Chicago while Katelyn finished medical school.

On November 14, 2020, while on a casual walk through GVP with their beloved dog, Nellie, Eric asked Katelyn to spend forever with him. She said yes! They spent that day telling family and friends and enjoying the surprised reactions from some, with others stating "it's about time".
