Our story starts in one of the most romantic places -- the back of Steele Canyon High School. As Erica waited to be picked up, the friend she was with began talking to another girl Erica did not know. And who was also there? The one and only Richie Vazquez. Instead of awkwardly standing there while their friends spoke, Rich, in true Rich fashion, started talking to Erica and opened with none other than a joke. On a small piece of paper he had written "Press Here." Erica poked the paper, only for Rich to open it and show a drawing of a squished bug and the words "Oh no, you killed him!" Maybe the most surprising part of this story is that Erica actually found it funny and laughed. They started some small talk, but the whole time Erica couldn't help but be shocked that she was talking to such a cute and funny guy. She eventually left, all the time thinking how sad it was that she'd never run into Rich before and probably never would again...

The First Time We Met

It all started with a magic trick. Yes, a magic trick is how Richie asked Erica to the homecoming dance. Because tickets were sold out, they decided to instead have a date the same night of the dance at Belmont Park. After some convincing (aka begging), Hannah (MOH, sister of the bride) graciously drove Erica to Rich's house. When Erica arrived however, she was surprised to find Big Rich opening the door and Laurie, Briana, Alisa, and Ruben sitting in the living room ready to meet and ask her questions. Now mind you, Erica had heard about the famous Richard Vazquez (Big Rich) at this point since he had coached football for many of her classmates. Big Rich was just as nice and friendly as ever as he chauffeured Erica and Richie to their first date. From there, the date could have fit in a cheesy rom-com montage: Rich won various carnival games and gave Erica the prizes, they went on a few rides together, and shared an ice cream. Eventually they walked to the beach. They sat in the sand, chattering away and watching the waves. Since they were missing out on homecoming, Rich asked Erica to dance. She reluctantly obliged (as you will undoubtably see, she is a terrible dancer) and they swayed. Rich pulled out the flip phone his uncle had given him since Rich had broken his own (thank you Uncle Oscar) and started to play some classics, including "Always and Forever" by Heatwave. Very forward and assuming, I know! But Erica was smitten. He asked if he could kiss her, and the rest as they say is history.
