Our Love Story

Spenser always says his first memory of Erica was in the 5th grade lunchroom as she was talking with some friends. Although he thought she was cute, it wasn’t until 8th grade that he decided to make a move in true middle school fashion by texting her. This turned into after-school hang outs and dates to the local Mexican restaurant (shout-out to their parents for dropping them off to make it feel official). Little to their knowledge, they would be embarking on something that would last the rest of their lives.&nbsp;Throughout high school, they always made sure to find time for each other. This usually included Erica being the only girlfriend in Spenser’s group of guys, although she never minded as long as she could see him. They were each other's dates to ring dance and prom, first passengers when they each got their licenses, and even dubbed “cutest couple” by their senior class. Although they were leaving for separate colleges, Erica at UVA and Spenser at ODU, they knew what they had was special and gave long distance a shot.

They tried to see each other as much as possible with Spenser driving up on the weekends he wasn’t playing baseball. Erica took him to all her sorority’s date functions, treated him to dining hall brunches, and made him an honorary Hoo at football games. After two years though, they got tired of the “see you laters” so Spenser decided to transfer. Two more years, countless library days, and late-night dumpling runs later, these two celebrated another graduation together as they walked across the Lawn.

By this point, these two had truly grown up together and become each other’s best friends. They supported one another through all that the “real world” had to throw at them including not-so-glamorous first jobs, buying a house, grad school, and of course UVA’s biggest loss in NCAA basketball history. They moved in together in 2020 and it must have been Erica’s amazing cooking (or Spenser’s procrastination) that they finally got engaged after 12 years together. They are looking forward to celebrating half their lives in love with all their favorite people in one place this June and finally making things official.

The Cavalier Golf and Yacht Club is situated in the Birdneck Pointe neighborhood, less than 10 minutes from the Virginia Beach Oceanfront. Once you turn onto Cardinal Road from Laskin Road, continue down to the end where you will reach the venue.

A 1 or 2-night room block is available at this Bayfront hotel through the link below. It is located in the Chick's Beach neighborhood of Virginia Beach, about 20 minutes from the venue. Transportation from this hotel will be provided. Please make your reservation by May 14, 2024. If there are troubles, please contact Spenser or Erica.

One of our favorite places to go for a nice hike! We love the Cape Henry trail that follows Broad Bay's coastline.

First Landing State Park

One of the more crowded beaches in our area but tons to do along this 3-mile stretch including restaurants, shops, bars, playgrounds, rollerblading, surfing, and biking. You can park in one of the many parking garages or metered parking spots available.

Virginia Beach Boardwalk

Located in the basement of the historic Cavalier hotel, this distillery is a local favorite. You can book a tasting and tour of their facility or just enjoy one of their cocktails in their Hunt Room.

Tarnished Truth Distilling Co.

Such a fun place to go for an evening out! This renovated historic hotel blends casual and classy perfectly. Grab a specialty cocktail in the Raleigh Room located right off their main lobby and enjoy their classic vibes with indoor/outdoor seating and beautiful views of the Atlantic.
