If you're looking to explore a mountain town, check out Golden. You can walk downtown and along the river to find shopping & restaurants. Other things to check out include the Red Rocks Amphitheater and Coors Brewery (they offer tours if you're interested). You can also head up to Lookout Mountain for beautiful scenery.
