Our Story

The Proposal

Picture of The Proposal

MAY 5, 2018

Zachary and I love festive holidays, so of course Cinco De Mayo is one of our favorites and it just so happened to be on a Saturday (SCORE)!!

Earlier that week, Z had mentioned we could go to the Farmers Market with our pup, Finn and then go to a restaurant to get some margaritas. Farmers market? Margaritas? I can bring my pup? SOLD! So, with the anticipation of going out, I had gotten all dolled up and was ready to go out on the town but Z was no where to be found. When I finally tracked Z down from the neighbors house he was a sweaty hot mess so I told him to hurry up and get ready because I was ready to go. Z quickly showered and told me that he "reallyyyyyyyy wanted to take the boat out because it was the first nice day" and then we could go get margaritas. I tried to talk him out of it because I was already "dolled up" but he wouldn't budge. So, upstairs I went to take off all of my makeup, pull my hair back (it was super windy) and change my clothes. Little did I know he was actually planning to propose and I was unintentionally sabotaging his whole proposal. We finally got out on Saylorville Lake and I could tell he was so excited to be back on Clifford, the big red boat. He had just finished his water, so I saw the perfect opportunity to "ICE" him and ask him if he would like a beverage? Of course, he fell right into my trap and I "ICED" him on the bow of the boat (not realizing he was actually going to propose). We both started laughing really hard, exchanged a few friendly words and he chugged that Smirnoff Ice as I continued to snap a video of him all while chanting "FRESHMAN! FRESHMAN!" After that, we drove around Saylorville, I took a million pictures of Finn (he's so darn cute) and I turned around to see Zachary standing at the back of the boat with the cutest, cheesiest smile on his face. His proposal was very short and sweet and that's what I love about him. He said a few quick words, got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. It was perfect! I didn't cry like we both thought I would, instead I just kept laughing and smiling because I couldn't believe it was really happening. For those of you that may not know, we met at this lake, had our first date on his boat (Clifford), he asked me to move in on the boat and now he asked me to be his fiance on our boat. To put the cherry on top of this joyful proposal, three months prior to our engagement, he gave me the most beautiful and sentimental rose gold necklace that had the latitude and longitude of the lake on one side and our initials engraved on the other. I wear that necklace every single day and I even had charms added for our two pups. It truly was the perfect proposal location. You nailed it, babe! We spent the next thirty minutes or so just soaking up being engaged, took a few pictures and then began sharing our exciting news with our family and closest friends. We spent that whole weekend celebrating our engagement with family and friends and it was everything I could have wanted and so much more. I can't wait to belly laugh with my best-friend for the rest of my life.
