Erika and Juan Pablo’s love story took flight in the summer of 2018. Set up on a blind date by a mutual friend, Erika and Juan Pablo met on June 3, 2018. With a year and a half still left of her undergraduate studies at Florida State University, a long-distance relationship was literally a long shot (460 miles) but only a plane ride away for the young couple. Juan Pablo took to the skies often accumulating quite a few boarding passes to Tallahassee International Airport to visit his “Esmeralda”. Always full of surprises, Juan Pablo visited Erika in College Town most memorably on an unexpected Valentine’s Day visit.

Love of planes and love of travel set Erika and Juan Pablo on a journey of love. Visits to Juan Pablo’s hometown of Bogota, Colombia, a transatlantic flight to celebrate the New Year in 2021, and quick getaways to Las Vegas and Washington D.C. marked some unforgettable moments for both. From soaking in the sun in Palm Springs to playing in the snow in Colorado, the pair was always up to an adventure especially if it meant waking up in a new city or in a different time zone.

So it was no doubt that love was definitely in the air four and a half years later when Juan Pablo proposed to Erika on December 19, 2022. The couple boarded Money Penny and took off to Naples, Florida, for a quick celebratory dinner to mark Erika’s recent graduation from nursing school at the University of Miami. Feigning an airplane malfunction, Juan Pablo asked Erika to quickly grab a checklist to trouble shoot the problem. Last on the list but first on his mind was Juan Pablo’s proposal to Erika. In true Erika fashion, she was surprised but ecstatic. Next on their itinerary was their civil wedding on March 3, 2023.
