Erin and Spencer’s Story
Their story began in an emergency department in Indianapolis in 2018. She spotted him, thought, “OK….cuuute,” and — in classic Erin fashion — decided this was happening. It took a while, but they eventually had a first date which included a picnic of Potbelly subs and charcuterie along the canal downtown. The date was a success, and by August 2019 they were officially a couple.
Six months later, they planned their first “trial vacation” — a weekend getaway to Cincinnati. Spencer was very excited about the aquarium. But just a week before the trip, COVID-19 broke out, cancelling all travel plans. Instead of a getaway, they found themselves quarantined together in Erin’s downtown apartment. And how did they pass the time? Mario. An absurd amount of Mario. One fateful afternoon, Erin was left alone with the Nintendo Console and — in a move that will live in infamy — accidentally deleted Spencer’s hard-earned progress that started in childhood. Yes, all of Bowser’s Castle. Yes, Star World too. She confessed immediately... and he didn’t break up with her — Green Flag!
With the world on pause, they took a big leap a few weeks later: they quit their jobs, packed up, and took travel nursing contracts in Boston, MA. They mostly enjoyed their South End Boston 350 sq ft apartment together — another Green Flag! Next stop was Dallas, TX, and after a little over a year of travel nursing they returned home to complete their Master’s degrees.
Once home in Indiana, they spent the next two years living downtown in Fountain Square, really relishing the last few years in their 20s. During this time, they made their greatest joint accomplishment: adopting their fluffy, perfect pup, Sully 🐾. Eventually, knowing Indy was their forever home, they abandoned apartment life and moved into their first home in Broad Ripple.
On New Year’s Day 2024, they booked a dream trip to Europe for 3 weeks in the fall. Erin was itching for a ring and Spencer confessed early on that there was no world in which she would be getting engaged at the Eiffel Tower, their 5th and final stop of the European tour. September finally arrived, and their adventure began in Munich, Germany. After conquering Oktoberfest, they took a train ride to Berlin. On the first full day in Berlin, Spencer planned “dinner reservation.” While walking along the Spree River on their wait to "dinner," Spencer took a moment to stop and turn Erin around to admire the beautiful Berlin Cathedral on Museum Island. A hangry Erin turned around insisting they were going to miss their reservations if they didn’t hurry up, to find Spencer down on one knee. After a shocked, “What are you doing! OMG get up!” Erin finally shut her mouth and allowed Spencer to get out all the words he needed to, to ask her to be his wife. She said “YES!” Kudos Spencer for planing ahead and hiring a photographer, who had been following them their whole walk and captured this special moment (As seen on the save-the-dates). The rest of the trip was spent in a blissful European love bubble. Once they returned home, reality struck and wedding planning began.
And now — seven years, one deleted Mario save file, countless adventures, and one very spoiled dog later — the day is finally here. We cannot wait to eat, drink, dance, and celebrate with all our favorite people! With love, gratitude, and a healthy dose of chaos,
The Soon-to-Be Mr. & Mrs. Spencer Schultz
