The 4.5 mile Maryland Heights trail overlooks the town of Harpers Ferry, WV, the site of abolitionist John Brown's raid. The views are beautiful (and this is where we got engaged!). There are many wineries in the area, if you want to make a day trip. We would recommend Breaux Vineyards for this.

While maybe slightly exaggerated, Thomas Jefferson once said the views are "perhaps one of the most stupendous scenes in nature."

This aircraft hangar is a Smithsonian Museum located right next to Dulles Airport. It is a massive complex that houses some of the most impressive historical aircrafts we have seen, including the Enola Gay (the plane that dropped the first nuclear bomb in Japan) and the Discovery Spaceship. It is one of our favorites, and we would recommend it more than the Air and Space Museum located on the National Mall.

The Smithsonian Institution has more than a dozen free museums, many of which are located right on the National Mall.

Some of our favorites include the American History Museum, Asian Art Museum, Hirshhorn Museum, Holocaust Museum, National Archives, and Portrait Gallery.
