Addison and I had always known of each other, throughout elementary school and so on, but never officially met when we were younger. One night I went to True Blue Winery and Addison was the bartender. So, as great a bartender as Addison is, it was awfully easy to start up a conversation with him and we officially introduced ourselves. Time passed, I went to True Blue a few times after that, and Addison and I chatted a little whenever I saw him. After a few months, and one or two glasses of liquid courage, I went back to the wine bar and gave Addison my number. We went out a few times, but neither of us really wanted to be in a serious relationship, as I had just recently ended one and he had just moved back to town. Thank God that what we think we want, sometimes, doesn't matter at all.
Since day one, Addison and I have been the perfect pairing for all of our traveling and adventures. We have seen so many places and things, and I know I wouldn't have seen most of it without him by my side. I say that because we've gone places that I had never heard of or never really wanted to visit or thought about going. Like Detroit, who visits Detroit?! We did, and it was awesome, just like every other place has been and will be. We can't wait to see the rest of America's baseball stadiums together!
Over the last year or two, Addison and I have talked about marriage but I definitely wasn't expecting a ring anytime soon, at least until we moved back home for good. We had just celebrated our three year anniversary in Eugene, OR and Christmas was right around the corner. We planned a trip to spend Christmas 2016 with my family at my Grammy's cabin in Maggie Valley, NC, and to spend some time with my parents at the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, NC.
The Biltmore (one of our favorite places) has this one spot where you can take a picture and get the whole mansion in the background, so I just had to go up there for a family picture. After getting a few shots with my parents, Addison asked my Dad to take some of the two of us, little did he know he was about to become my favorite photographer! So we got a couple poses in, and the next thing I knew Addison was down on one knee with a ring- I could not believe it. I was so surprised that I don't even remember saying yes, he said that I just saw something sparkly and grabbed the ring! Once my Mom realized what was happening, any chance of subtlety was gone. I'm pretty sure she was shrieking so loudly that the animals in the woods were scared away, but it got everyone else's attention so there was a round of applause from about twenty or so people. I could not have asked for a more perfect proposal!
