A Groom’s Tale

October 19th of 2019 started off as a normal fall summer day. A charming, smooth, caramel gentleman from the Gulf Coast (Galveston to be exact) was preparing to celebrate a new chapter in his professional life, and a stunning, sassy Dallas (really Lancaster) native was picking out heels and a fancy hat for what she thought would be a normal Friday night hangout. Little did the Galvestonian named Reginald, and the Southside Dallas representative, Eryn, know- their worlds were about to collide in the MOST dramatic fashion. Amidst an evening full of laughs, tacos and tequila, it wasn't long before Reginald (Young Reg from this point forward in the story) noticed Eryn (the D-Town Dime) and the unbreakable gaze she placed upon him throughout the evening. Upon approaching like Keith Sweat on a windy day with baggy clothes, Young Reg found the D-Town Dime stuck and at a loss for words as she could hardly contain herself because of the boldness and intensity of Young Reg's approach. Through her blushing and uncontrollable smiling, this melting masterpiece of a woman managed to bring her hand forward for a handshake and the rest, as they say was history. Shortly after their cosmic collision over the finest of tacos and margaritas, Young Reg and the D-Town Dime found themselves singing karaoke to one another, exchanging glances throughout the night, and finding ways to be close to one another. Admittedly, Eryn played hard to get, but her gravity was inescapable and Young Reg couldn't help but do whatever he could to remain in her orbit. As the night came to a close, Young Reg went in for a hug and whispered the words, "I likes ya, and I wants ya.... I'ma get yo lil yella ass Ms. Eryn" to which she rudely responded and quite frankly said some sort of hurtful things to Young Reg that he'll likely never forget because it really wasn't that deep.... But the love... The love that was afoot was exactly that deep.... so they parted ways that night with an open book that had nothing on its pages... A short time later, on November 2nd, Eryn and Reginald's paths crossed again. As if it was destined, the two found themselves back at the same karaoke spot where they saw the first sparks of forever. Young Reg walked in with the swagger of 100 golden ostriches, and as the crowd made way for his entrance as he adorned himself with a golden suede jacket and all of the adornments of a young, fly.... "individual".... it was almost as if the music stopped, and once again this beautiful, magnetic woman, and this irresistible but intentional man connected with an energy that could have shaken the entire room. There were more laughs, Tequila Sunrises, and multiple small moments of intimacy that further laid the groundwork for the inevitable. However, what most likely stood out for the D-Town Dime that evening was Reginald's performance, where he professed his love via the lyrical stylings of Snoop Dogg and his timeless classic, "Gin and Juice." The night concluded with a 4 hour car conversation where Reginald and Eryn got to know each other at their cores. They shared their fears, their insecurities, their joys, their values, but maybe most importantly, their truths. Eryn ended that night reluctantly offering Young Reg her phone number on the strict condition that she would let him know she made it home safe and the two would never speak again. I have no idea why she thought it would end there, because who would actually think that? Nonetheless... Following those two fateful encounters, there were screen length text messages that sounded like Babyface talking to Tony Braxton, 4 hour phone conversations that literally went until sunrise, random meetups because the two needed to see each other, and eventually first dates, second dates and a rapidly increasing need to see one another early and often. The two fell for one another quickly. And then the world shut down... Covid happened.... In what was a dark time for many, Eryn and Reginald found a light in one another's lives brighter than anything they'd seen before. They found a best friend in one another. They found security, fulfillment and wholeness in way that almost seemed unfair to the rest of the world. Eventually, Eryn went from "this girl I like" to "this woman that might be the one" and Reginald went from "this handsome, dashing man" to "this handsome, dashing man I want to do life with." What started as two people in two separate homes, became a family in one home. What started as two separate lives eventually became one unified forever, and on June 28th Young Reg asked the D-Town Dime for her hand in marriage, where she said yes, and the two began building the rest of their lives together.

The Officiant

It was the Winter of 1988 and I was bored out of my mind… I mean my parents were cool and everything but I needed a friend! So they give me the news that they are expanding the team and I am STOKED. I mean I am so excited that I start coming up with names. I’m pretty fond of Whitney Houston so I figure Whitney is the best possible name for my new friend. I was extremely hurt when they named her Eryn, instead. I mean… what even IS an Eryn?! Over the next thirty something years I would find out that an Eryn is a smart, kind, tenacious, formidable being full of love and compassion for others. That worried me a bit because I never wanted anything to hurt her. I may or may not have already decided there was not a bullet or jail cell that would stand in between me and protecting my sister. She was my first and best friend! And when she grew up and started dating, all I ever wanted was for her to find someone that loved her as hard as I do. Fast forward to 2020 she is telling me about “This Guy”… I mean This Guy was funny and smart and they had a great time together. And the munchkins like him, too?? WHO is This Guy??? Well, This Guy was Reggie. And he was everything she said he was. What a genuinely good person! When it got serious… I got excited. Because I knew that The One™️ had finally found her. And found her babies. It was as it says in the Good Book; a good thing. And I don’t know about “the swagger of 100 golden ostriches” but I know this for sure; Eryn & Reggie are meant to be together. Made for each other. My bestie found the real love, partnership, and companionship I’d hoped for. My fervent prayer for this Toussant union is for a portion of the joy that each of them put out into the world… both individually and collectively… to visit them every single day… for as long as they walk God’s green Earth. I’m overjoyed that my partner in (alleged) crime found forever.

Eryn has been my ride or die since 2006 when we met at SFA. We have leaned on each other through many moments and every life's transition. I'm so honored to not only call her my best friend but a chosen sister. I can't wait to celebrate Eryn and Reggie's union!! May God bless the future Mr. & Mrs. Toussant!!!

Eryn and I have been friends since we were 10 years old. We ran the hallways of Lancaster Junior and High School together and dominated the football field every Friday with the band and drill team.  Life long friends that have embraced all chapters of life together. I'm cheering and supporting Eryn down the aisle to her future husband, Reggie!

Trice (Eryn) is my older sister and my twin born 8 years apart. As one of my first friends, Eryn has always been there for me and is such an inspiration in each aspect of her own life. I am so excited for her new journey of becoming a wife! She deserves nothing more than love and happiness in abundance and I know that she will have all that and more in this new beginning with Reggie!

Eryn and I met my first year at SFA, in 2008. She didn't know it in the moment but I was in need of a big sister and that's exactly what God blessed me with. From that moment in the Phone Jack office (Where we worked), to her apartment for those bomb chicken tacos, to the many events we celebrated in between now and then, being many miles away, we have remained sisters. I'm in awe of the woman Eryn has blossomed into and I'm elated to celebrate one of the biggest moments in her life!

Since November 1996 Eryn Atrice has been my bestest, my sister and a large piece of my heart. 

We met at Community Missionary Baptist Church and instantly connected! Our families became family almost immediately. There wasn’t a week that passed where we weren’t with one another for 2-3 nights at least. The memories of fishing, soccer games, family outings to boyfriends, children, sickness and now marriage will forever hold a beautiful place in my heart. Experiencing so many highs and lows together over the past 27 years has taught us how much we can forever depend on each other no matter the distance. 

Trice, you are such a beautiful soul! You have overcome so much and deserve all the happiness and joy in the world. I love you with my whole heart! I am so proud of you and honored to stand by your side as you marry the man of your dreams.

I’ve known Regg for over 30 years. The true definition of homeboi, we lived across the street from one another. Fast forward to college, we lived together for four years and have always been there for each other ever since. I’m grateful to call myself a brother, and happy to see him so successful in life and fulfilled in love. Not only with this amazing woman he so fortuitously (like that one, Regg 😉) came across but with her two little loves who he immediately took to. The joy I hear in his voice when talking about any one of them warms me up every time. I’ll never get tired of it and look forward to that warmth for years to come. Super stoked for the both of you and humbly honored to not just witness this union but to be standing up there representing my boi. I met Reggie in 2004 during freshman orientation at Texas State University. We immediately linked up and we’ve been down ever since. Our friendship grew into a brotherhood as roommates for 3 years during undergrad in San Marcos. We’ve had more good times together than I can count, and been there for each other through the ups and downs of life. Everyone wants their loved ones to be happy, so it gives me joy to see how happy Eryn makes Reggie. I remember when I first met Eryn and watched the two interact. I remember thinking, “Oh yeah… my boy Reggie met his match!” I wish nothing but the best for them and I feel privileged to be part of their wedding party.
