In 8th grade, Bernard made the first move. Both he and Ethel had the same English teacher, but in different periods. A week before, there had been a pop quiz, and Ethel hadn’t studied at all. When it came time to grade the quizzes, the teacher had other students check the answers from different periods. Unfortunately for Ethel, every answer on her quiz was wrong. By the time she got her quiz back, she was embarrassed. To her surprise, she discovered that it was Bernard who had graded her quiz, and he had written on the paper asking for her number.
Feeling bold and stepping out of her character, Ethel decided to approach Bernard after school to see if he really meant it. Bernard, initially caught off guard, didn’t respond right away. After about ten minutes of thinking it over, he finally gathered the courage to ask her for her number. From there, the rest was history.
What was your first impression of each other
When Ethel first met Bernard in 6th grade, he was walking by with a palm tree hairdo. She thought he looked pretty funny and never would have expected him to be her future husband. When they dated the first time in 8th grade, she didn't expect for him to be shy as well. He seemed to be well respected and that's when she knew she had fallen. Bernard’s first impression of Ethel was that she was shy and quiet. He noticed that she had really pretty eyes and a nice smile.
