Evan and Jon’s love story started like all great modern romances do—with a bunch of overlapping mutual friends and a questionable Ja Rule impression.

Halloween weekend in San Francisco brought them together when Jon’s friend Jeff was visiting and staying with Anthony (Jon’s close friend and former roommate), who happens to be dating Hillary (Caroline’s childhood best friend and former roommate). Caroline is Evan’s good friend—and that chaotic Venn diagram landed them at the same small party of six people. Their first meeting was lighthearted (and a little ridiculous—Jon’s Ja Rule impression didn’t exactly sweep Evan off her feet), but something clicked by the end of the night. A few days later, Jon invited Evan on a date… on his birthday. From there, their connection deepened quickly. Over the next two months, they crisscrossed through travel plans and still found time for one another, eventually spending Christmas and New Year’s together. At the stroke of midnight on New Year’s Eve, Jon asked Evan to be his girlfriend. She said no… and then yes the next day.

Since then, it’s been years of impressions, belly laughs, frequent stops to pet random dogs, and bonding over football. They’ve met each other’s families, cheered for their teams (Who Dat vs. Who Dey is still up for debate), and traveled across the U.S., Europe, and the Caribbean. Evan says she’s never laughed so hard in her life. Jon’s just happy to have found someone who’ll watch eight hours of NFL coverage in one sitting.

A turning point came after Evan returned from a few weeks in Spain. Jon picked her up from the airport and brought her back to his apartment, where he asked her to stay for good. She moved in shortly after. A few months later, they were browsing engagement rings—Evan ultimately decided to design her own. Jon pulled off a rooftop proposal in San Francisco, complete with flowers, a few clever decoys, and a surprise party at the bar where he first asked her to be his girlfriend—this time surrounded by the people they love.

They always knew they’d tie the knot in New Orleans. Jon wants a second line. Evan wants to be home. And you? They want you on the dance floor.
