How it all began...

Ethan Canby and Evangeline Metzger

Was it love at first sight? Definitely not! They met early 2021 playing mini-golf through their church's activity small group. Evangeline was new to the area and wanted to make friends and not relationships. Ethan's other responsibilities were ramping up and he couldn't be active with the group anyways. So when did they become friends?A year after they first met, Ethan came back into Evangeline's picture. He wanted to join the small group again, but by then the other members had left and the remaining girl and Evangeline were leading a girl's group! They said, "If you want an activity group, start it yourself and we'll support you." And he did. Two years went by, and the group expanded. There were 20+ extremely active young adults meeting for activities weekly. There was a girls group and a boys group and then an official church young adults ministry was started. About 40 total young adults were involved total. Leading all these events were a core group of 4 leaders, including Ethan and Evangeline. So they fell in love?Still nope. Ethan and Eve were so focused on creating these adventures for THEIR community. At one point they were working 8 hour days after their 8 hour full-time jobs. Like when they organized an 11-people kayak trip on a random Tuesday, they were picking up kayaks from all over town in a Sprinter van. They loved adventures, they loved their people, they loved media and videos, but they refused to consider a romantic relationship. Until Ethan left. What?!Ethan left his job at Element Church to be the lead video guy for a non-profit organization. It was a promotion and a pay raise. For a clear and clean passing on of the torch, he decided to completely leave the group. So he passed on all the responsibilities to the person he trusted the most, Evangeline. It was when they were separated that they realized how much they missed each other. At the end of 2023, after years of friendship and even a month-long friendship break, they decided they should give dating a try. And here they are.

So what are they doing now? Ethan was full-time freelance video for a year with his business, TopOutCreatives. He is currently a full-time Video Storyteller for Pathfinder Church. Evangeline is a video producer for etrailer.com, making content on products related to outdoor recreational activities, trailering, and towing.

AIRBNB, VRBO recommendations Since this area is along the Buffalo River, there are plenty of airbnb and vrbo options in the area. We recommend searching, "Mt Sherman, Arkansas", "Ponca, Arkansas", "Jasper, Arkansas", and "Buffalo River, Arkansas" to find scenic lodgings near the venue. The venue ranch is very rustic and limited on amenities. If you are into making sure you stay in the ranch, then great. But for those that are looking for a more comfortable stay, we highly recommend getting an Airbnb instead.

Camping: (bring your own tent, van, or small trailer) available for $7 per night. Cabins: (example of description) Rustic log cabins with enclosed downstairs bedroom with queen size bed, an open loft with five twin beds, small refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, full bath, and covered front porch with nice view. All cabins have modern heating and air-conditioning.&nbsp;All linens and towels are included.&nbsp;Cabin amenities do not include stoves or dishes/cutlery. $195/$250 per night. Minimum two night stay. There is a block of cabins on-site reserved for the wedding. Just mention that you are with Ethan and Evangeline upon making the reservation to get access to the cabin block. If you are interested in joining in a shared cabin, please reach out to the couple!

We will be rock climbing and exploring most of the Saturday. You are welcome to join us or explore the beautiful area on your own. HCR does charge a $25 weekend activity fee and a signed waiver. Those just attending the campfire and ceremony won't need to pay the activity fee.
