It all started when I went to Westside Tabernacle on August 7, 2022, and prayed through. I began attending every church service, got a new haircut, started wearing suits, and so on. On October 2, 2022—yes, just two months later—I was walking and praying during a Sunday night service when Evelyn walked past me on her way to the platform to play the organ (by the way, she was playing the first night I came). Suddenly, I got “dragonflies” (guys don’t get butterflies) in my stomach and became really nervous. I brushed it off and kept praying. Anyway, the service ended that night, and Kent and I were talking with her afterward. She asked, “Are any men going to take the dumpster out?” Of course, wanting to impress her—and also do what our pastor had asked—I volunteered. Afterward, she gave me a dollar. I went home knowing I wanted to marry her. I decided to write the date, October 2, 2022, on that dollar bill so I could give it to her when we got married and tell her that was the night I first had feelings for her. Fast forward almost a year to August 11, 2023—a Friday night at PATH conference—we were playing cornhole together, and I knew, without a shadow of a doubt, that I wanted to marry her. By then, I had liked her for 10 months, so the next day I called my pastor to speak with him about it. He told me to wait, but also gave me encouraging words and scriptures, which helped me feel better. As I waited, I got to know Evelyn more. On March 15, a group of us went to Disneyland. I was hoping to get some quality time with her, but that didn’t happen. By the end of the night, I felt discouraged and considered giving up. On March 27, I called my pastor for advice. To my surprise, he said, “Oh, by the way, I think the feelings are mutual.” From then on, I had to try to carry on as normal because we weren’t official yet. On June 14, at PCC, my pastor told me to take her out to eat and make good memories. That Sunday night (June 16), he and Sister Klann met with us and gave us permission to start talking. On August 16, he told me it was time to ask her out on a date. I called her, and we went on our first date on August 17. Finally, on May 31, 2025, I asked her to marry me and be my wife—so the “dollar bill prophecy” could come true!
