Many of you have heard our special story that started it all, but for those of you who haven’t, you can read it below!

It was July 13, 2023. Fernando (DVD Guy) had recently begun to work as a probation officer. That morning, he went through his pepper spray training — meaning he had literally been pepper sprayed in the face. After being cleared to drive safely home, he decided to take a detour to the local library to rent DVD’s he could watch at home, something he'd become very familiar doing over the past several years.

Fernando entered the library and began to look through the movies, deciding which ones he wanted to rewatch. Then he noticed Kati (Library Girl), who'd been working at this library for the past seven years, walk by on her way to take photos for an idea she'd just had for an Instagram Reel. Fernando noticed the new tattoo she had on her right arm, a brain and a heart with flowers around it. He complimented Kati on the beautiful tattoo, and the two continued talking for the next forty(ish) minutes.

Finally Fernando, who was too nervous to ask Kati for her number, clapped his hands and said “welp, let me get back to the DVDs.” Kati was surprised since there seemed to have been some chemistry between them, but now she felt unsure. So the two went back to what they were originally doing — Kati to her work, and Fernando to his DVDs.

Upon selecting his movies and checking out, Fernando was on his way out the door when he stopped. He felt a nudge — which he now believes was God — urging him to go back and ask Kati for her number. He turned around and went to find Kati, only to realize she was assisting a customer. So he ducked below the Young Adult shelves and pretended to look for a book (a rare sight for DVD Guy).

Once Kati finally finished with her customer and began walking back to the front of the library, Fernando worked up the courage to step forward and ask for her number...only to realize he'd left his phone in the car. Thankfully Kati said yes to him giving her his number, and a few minutes later she texted him saying she'd love to find a time for them to hang out and get to know each other better.

And this, our friends, is the story of how Library Girl and DVD Guy began to fall in love.
