A Serendipitous Love: From Doubt to Devotion.. or so we thought.
Jeremiah 29:11
Love has a funny way of finding us when we least expect it. It's often said that the right person will come into your life when you are learning to love yourself, and that's exactly what happened to me. I had reached a point where I was setting boundaries, understanding my worth, and focusing on my growth. Little did I know that my journey would take an unexpected turn when I met him.
Our first encounter was anything but ideal.


I remember feeling a mix of annoyance and skepticism. I thought he was just another guy interested in one thing—my goodies, and I took a vow of, “No sex before marriage” so there was no small talk for me. I was more of a ladies lady if you get my drift.
So when I first met him, I never imagined that he would be the love of my life. In fact, I didn't like him at all. I had no intention of letting my guard down, especially not for someone in the "community world".
Not during this Self love journey honey! Plus his approach was a little to rough for me, during my soft girl era!
However, that night, fate had other plans, and sometimes, life has a FUNNY way of surprising us-!
Our story is a testament to the magic that can unfold when we open our hearts and minds.


It was during that first conversation that I was assuming he just wanted me to come to his place to be grown, but he revealed something deeply personal: his grandmother had passed away earlier that night. His pain was palpable, and I found myself drawn to the depth of his emotions. Despite the sadness, we talked for hours, sharing stories, dreams, and fears, until the early hours of the morning he even cooked for me.
It was as if time had ceased to exist, and for a moment, our souls were at home, you know?


We connected on a level I hadn't anticipated and I saw a side of him I hadn't expected—a man with depth, vulnerability, and a genuine heart.
The next day, he had to return to Indiana to be with his children. The bond we formed overnight was undeniable, but I still had my reservations. Nearly a month passed before he returned to Philadelphia, and when he did, he was ready to propose. I was stunned. I thought he was joking when I expressed my vow to him, and his response was, "you wouldn't marry me anyway."


My thoughts? How could someone be so sure after such a short time? It was a whirlwind of emotions; I was taken aback by his sincerity and the intensity of his feelings. But his conviction was unwavering, softening my defenses and despite my initial doubts, I took a leap of faith. To my astonishment, my parents had already arranged a dinner for us prior to his next visit. They've been chatting over the phone apparently. My Popah took to him immediately.


I saw in him what they begun to see—a man who was ready to love and be loved. Their approval meant the world to me, and it made me reconsider my initial doubts. Another month later, after countless trips back and forth, he asked me to move to Indiana. I thought he was just talking but videos of home updates and him arriving with a U-Haul to help me move was confirmation enough. It was a leap of faith, but one I was ready to take. We began our new life together, and now, we're planning our engagement party.


It's been a beautiful but challenging journey as we navigate the intricacies of living together. Every day, he treats me with so much love and affection. It's questionable at times but i'm learning its genuine!
We are learning from each other what trust and genuine love truly mean. Im teaching him “love languages” so please have patience with his self-love journey as well!


For the one’s wondering, I'm actually 33, and he's 42—I'm the proud owner of, “ Self-boundaries the academy and I help fabulous women aged 35-54 to embrace self-love and self-care through a unique blend of mindset magic, body positivity coaching, and epic photography adventures- so they can rediscover their inner strength and beauty. In the near future, I plan to get my doctrine in Psychology to become a marriage and couples counselor.
So no need to worry, because this Virgo woman has him covered like all- state baby!

Our ages have only brought his wisdom and a deep appreciation for my biblical values; Thats a deadly combination if you ask me! Having someone who respects my beliefs is a blessing I cherish every day. Black love is indeed awesome, a testament to resilience, growth, and understanding.


Just when I was about to give up on finding true love, he walked into my life. He walked in at a time when I was learning to understand myself and setting healthy boundaries. Showing me how to live fully and fearlessly!
As we plan our engagement party, and our future together, I am filled with gratitude for the man who came into my life and taught me the true meaning of love and trust. I can't help but marvel at the path we've traveled, and It's hard to believe that I almost turned him down for nearly three years- but god has the last say so! Amen!


Our love story is a beautiful testament to the power of faith, love and patience. It’s a reminder that sometimes, the person you least expect can become the most significant presence in your life.
Our journey from, “doubt to devotion” is a reminder that love often finds us when we least expect it, and it's worth every risk and leap of faith.
Together, we are learning, growing, and building a future filled with love and trust. As we stand on the brink of this new chapter, I am grateful for the serendipity that brought us together and excited for the endless possibilities that lie ahead.
