Vail's slogan is VAIL - Like Nothing on Earth - we couldn't agree more. We want you to enjoy every moment of your stay! Here are some tips to help you prepare for your trip.
High Altitude
Vail sits at over 8,000 feet above sea level, and guests may experience altitude sickness. It can affect anyone, regardless of age or physical condition. Staying hydrated is crucial! We also recommend indulging in healthy sugars and carbohydrates during the first day or two of your stay; it really helps! If possible, consider arriving early to give yourself time to acclimate. Most people feel better after about 24 hours.
Also, be aware that alcohol is more potent at high altitudes. Donu't learn this the hard way! When drinking, we suggest alternating between a drink and a glass of water. Remember, one drink here equals two drinks at lower elevations!
Weather
Before your trip, check the weather forecast for Vail, Colorado (zip code 81658) at www.weather.com. Colorado enjoys over 300 days of sunshine each year, so we're hopeful for a beautiful, sunny wedding weekend. However, weather in the mountains can be unpredictable and change rapidly. Daytime temperatures in September can reach up to 70 degrees or higher, but evenings on the mountain can get chilly, ranging between 40-50 degrees.
At 10,000 feet, the top of Vail Mountain, sun exposure is 40% greater than at sea level. We recommend using sunscreen with at least SPF 30 on all exposed skin, especially your face, lips, and neck. Don't forget to protect your eyes with sunglasses. Vail's arid climate can also be harsh on your skin, so hand lotion and lip balm are essential.
PACK YOUR BAGS!
It is very important that you pack your suitcase with the appropriate apparel. Remember, you can always take off layers, so it's better to overpack.
