On August 30th, 2022, I was walking to work and when I got to the crosswalk by the Post Office, I saw a Mail truck with a young man sitting in it and he waved for me to go with a smile on his face.
In that moment, something drew me to him. I just knew I had to meet him! As every sister does when she needs help, I asked my sister, Abby to help me. I told her that if she sees him, to get his name and age.
A little while goes by and she ends up getting to meet him while she was babysitting. She got all the information for me and figured out he ran the route at the bottom of Main St. at 10 a.m. on Saturdays.
September 10th, 2022, I marched myself down that hill and saw the mail truck. I approached it and he was in the back of the truck getting packages out. He saw me and said "Hi!" I replied asking him if his name is Gabriel. He told me yes and then I told him he had met my sister a bit ago. We talked for just a couple of minutes and then I went on my way.
I went home that night and prayed that the Lord would guide me in this.
At 10 a.m. every Monday and Saturday after that, I would walk down to Main St., and we would talk. For 7 months we did this until I got a new job that required me to drive to work. On Saturdays I would still walk down and see him for a bit. It became a part of the normal Saturday routine.
After he had met my parents, we decided we were going to sit down and have coffee after his work on March 25th, 2022. We had never actually talked off of the street before and we didn't have each other's phone number yet, so this was pretty special.
That day, a blizzard appeared and unbeknownst to me, his car wouldn't make it to the coffee shop, so he decided to walk 1.8 miles in a blizzard just to meet me. When he got there, he was covered in ice and snow and due to the blizzard, the coffee shop was closed. The fact that he walked in a blizzard to meet me, still brings tears to my eyes.
So, I called my dad up to let him know what was going on and asked him if we could go to Stiggs restaurant instead. After getting a yes from him and Momma, we both walked over and little did we know, that was our first date.
We had pork tacos and barbecue, and I had brought a list of questions I wanted to ask him. We ate and talked for about 2 hours. Just truly enjoying each other's company.
There was clear interest on both sides, so we kept hanging out, when summertime came around, we did stroll the streets together, rode bikes, got ice cream and he hung out a lot with my family. I met his mom and dad the summer of 23 and needless to say, they are both awesome.
We started doing a Bible study together on August 4th, 2023. What a joy it is to be led closer to Christ and to worship the Lord with him. We've kept that up even to this day.
We did thanksgiving at all three houses and that has become one of the things I look forward to every year.
We started teaching kids together at the end of the 2023 and what a blessing that has to been to just pour into those kid's hearts and to serve God better together.
Fast forward to September of 2024. We had been announced as courting for some time now. He became great friends with my entire family, was over a lot for dinner, and our love grew so deep for each other.
On September 22nd, 2024, Me, Gabe, and James all went to play disc golf at Avalanche Mountain. We got to the top and he said that he needed a water, so he and James ran down to the car and then ran back up to where I was. When they got back up, Gabe said that his legs were hurting so he sat down, and I went to rest my arms on the balcony overlooking the water. When I turned around, he was on one knee with the prettiest ring I have ever seen and said "Soooo, wanna marry me?" I was in tears and immediately said yes!
The best part beside getting engaged is that Gabe had told James to record it. Somehow, he did not record it, but got a picture instead, and the picture ended up being hilariously horrible.
Our story, I would say comes straight out of a fairytale. We've been through some ups and downs, but I can say without a doubt, I wouldn't want to do life with anyone else. He has been the biggest blessing to me and I'm so grateful we get to serve God together.
Here's to marrying the Mailman!
I pulled out of the post office and I get to the cross walk and I see a girl who I wave through to walk and she gave me a big smile, I didn't think a whole lot about it at the time but then, a couple days passed and I see another girl (Abby) walking to me and asking me my name and I told her it was Gabe and she said that she was asking for her sister.
One day on main street I see the girl that I waved to walk, walking towards me. She stopped to talk to me and she seemed really sweet and interested in me. So I asked if I could get her number to which she replied with no, which seemed odd to me, so we finished out conversation and went our separate ways.
Every Monday and Saturday after that she would walk down and see me. I thought it was very nice of her to go out of her way to come and talk to me cause no one has really ever done that for me.
After a while, she invited me to go to good Friday with her, to which I did.
More of his story to come!
