Our Wedding

One summer day in 2019, in a certain fraternity house, there lived a boy who filled his days playing beer games with the boys. They wore short shorts, blasted loud music, and there wasn’t a girl in sight—until summer rolled around. When summer hit, sororities closed, leaving their members temporarily without housing. The fraternity men had a brilliant idea: they’d rent out their extra rooms to the women who needed a place to stay. Thus began the tradition known as "summer live-in," and this is where our story begins. Summer kicked off, and the girls began moving in. Moms helped with the unpacking, hit by a subtle blend of bleach and stale beer. Each step on the wooden floors was met with a faint stickiness, but they pressed on. While moms hid their disgust behind polite smiles, the dads wore nostalgic grins. Everyone rushed through the move-in because the first big event of summer was the next day: the "summer live-in beer die competition”. One girl, Gabby, had moved in with her three friends, Maddie, Molly, and KJ. They set up their room around a neglected fish tank that had somehow survived the year, eager to meet everyone in the house. Naive but optimistic, they decided to enter the beer die tournament, hoping to make some new friends. Gabby and Maddie teamed up and started practicing. Meanwhile, the brackets were posted. It was a typical six-game elimination series. The theme was "dynamic duos," and Matthew and his partner went all in with a German twist, sporting lederhosen. The games began, and unfortunately, Matthew’s team lost in either the first or second round. He was partnered with Jenna, and to this day, he claims he wasn’t the reason for the loss … (sorry, Jenna) Dressed in Hawaiian shirts, Gabby and Maddie started winning. And they kept winning—all the way to the championship, where they faced off against Ryan Buchmayer and Fruci. The dice flew, tensions ran high, and the boys began to sweat. On the sidelines, Matthew noticed Gabby. Finally, someone who could give the boys a real challenge. He was captivated, but Gabby didn’t seem to notice him… yet… In the end, Maddie and Gabby took the win—a massive upset for the whole fraternity. They had only wanted to make friends, but they left with some "enemies" (dramatic, I know). Some say the boys had been sipping all day and weren’t at their peak, but I guess we’ll never know. So, what’s next after two girls win a beer die tournament? A post-tournament party, of course. Gabby and Maddie—eager to bask in their victory—made their entrance, but quickly realized it wasn't for them; the party space was too hot, too crowded, and way too loud. Thankfully, their friend Tiger mentioned that a group was heading down to another social room where Matthew happened to be. Intrigued, they tagged along. Gabby hadn’t met Matthew yet, but if you know her, she rarely says no to a social activity. Gabby and Matthew struck up a conversation and quickly hit it off. As people gradually left, it was just Gabby and Matthew, chatting into the late hours. When Gabby finally said goodnight and walked down the hall to her room, she couldn’t shake the feeling that Matthew was different. They had explored a wide range of topics, around the playful notion he's 'cursed' for being dairy-free to profound discussions about Christianity and the true purpose of life. At 21, Gabby could never have imagined the extraordinary journey that lay ahead—a path woven with joy, laughter, heartache, adventure, humility, patience, the occasional glass of wine, and, above all, a faith that would become the cornerstone of their relationship and the essence of their shared lives, culminating in this beautiful moment: their wedding day.
